Ted Cruz Lays Down Hard Truths About the Biden Administration and Its ‘War on Energy’ – Opinion

As the energy crisis ramps up, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, like many of us, is fuming over the fact that this doesn’t have to be happening in the first place.

During a Fox News Digital interview on Tuesday, Cruz laid down some hard facts about the Biden administration, chief among them is that the Democrats in the White House are leading a “war on energy” that has brought us from bad to worse in just a short period of time. It is a war on domestic energy, and the Biden government seems not to hesitate about purchasing oil from our adversaries.

“They could solve it themselves, and I have recently introduced legislation that would restore American energy independence,” Cruz said. “Instead of taking those options, they want to purchase oil from places like Iran and Venezuela.”

“They would rather fund terrorism and the worst regimes on the planet,” Cruz continued. “It’s appalling.”

Prior to announcing that they will no longer import oil from Russia the Biden administration had been buying over 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day. This was even before the invasion on Ukraine. The Biden administration effectively made it impossible for Americans to drill for oil in the United States and to achieve energy independence.

On Friday, Cruz introduced the “Energy Freedom Act,” a bill meant to help America achieve energy independence and make it an oil exporter instead of an importer. In a statement he posted on his site, Cruz lambasted the Biden administration for effectively making the United States a funder in our enemy’s wars on others and our own country:

“In the past year with Joe Biden as president, the United States has lost its status as a net petroleum exporter, after achieving that goal in 2019 for the first time since 1949. Why? It’s because President Biden, on the first day of his presidency, issued hostile and illegal orders targeting American oil and gas producers. These orders have led to increased oil prices and directed profits towards other oil exporting nations.

“These policies have poured billions of dollars into countries such as Russia and Iran, which use those funds to attack our allies and undermine the national security of America. Biden has placed greater restrictions on U.S. companies that he did on Russian oil. He has remained silent as Iran broke through sanctions, and their exports soared to over one million barrels per daily for the first times in three years.

Cruz stated that the bill would not cost the taxpayers anything but will start bringing in billions of dollars for the country. Additionally, it would generate new jobs and decrease energy costs. He noted, too that America has a much cleaner energy production process which means our fuel is better for the environment.

The bill will likely find little help in the Senate’s current state, but the midterms are approaching and Republicans are expected to make large gains.
