Take the On/Off Switch for Energy Independence from the White House – Opinion

It’s pretty clear that energy independence is a necessity for the security of our nation. If we weren’t having to rely on our enemies for our oil, and paying them large sums of money to boot, then they would be a lot worse off when it comes to planning for the destruction of others, including ourselves.

As RedState has previously covered, President Joe Biden promised something of a crusade against the oil industry to voters and vowed that he wouldn’t allow any new drilling in the United States. On day one of his presidency, he shut down construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, and from then on you couldn’t go a week without hearing something about “green energy.”

Those moves were what set the stage for the predicament we’re in now. We’re suffering an energy crisis because one man wanted to virtue signal on behalf of his entire party and win votes from people who think the world is going to end tomorrow because you drive a Silverado.

The fact that one man can swipe a pen across a piece of paper and shut down domestic oil production seems a bit dangerous, and we can see just how much of a threat a president can be to our own nation if he doesn’t like the way we produce energy. That doesn’t seem like a safe thing.

RedState LIVE: I talked about it briefly! Where I pointed out that the government’s approach to energy production needs to change. One man shouldn’t be able to make that decision. The stopping of oil production should, as it should, be decided by congress.

It would appear Ted Cruz agrees as he’s unveiled new legislation that would effectively stop the White House from acting unilaterally on oil production here in the United States.

America’s dependence on oil, national security and the security of foreign countries is too high. It’s massively irresponsible to fund our enemies while they hand us oil at jacked-up prices. This is irresponsible as well as just plain stupid.
