You won’t likely find many fans of Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-California) around these pages, since he’s someone who took a lead role in the farce of the second President Donald Trump impeachment trial, and is now on the equally farcical January 6th Committee. RedState previously reported that Swalwell seems to love spending time on TV or social media and being incorrect about everything, including the COVID pandemic and the false white supremacist smear about Glenn Youngkin.
But in a surprising fluke, the day after Independence Day, my colleague Nick Arama caught Swalwell doing something right for a change; he tried to explain in a series of tweets to followers that attacking the NRA won’t get the progressives the “gun control” they want. Nick pointed out, though, that it fell on deaf ears–and he even got attacked for the “blind squirrel finding a nut” moment.
On Friday, Swalwell shared with social media followers on the Twitters what he considers the “Democrat’s message” — and not only has the pendulum swung back to him being totally wrong, but what he wrote is unintentionally both revealing and frightening.
What’s the Democrats’ message? This is what I hear all the time. Simple.
We are the party for freedom.
Freedom to make your own decisions about health care.
Fear of gun violence? No more!
You have the right to vote.
We are the message.
Freedom for all

His words were:
What’s the Democrats’ message? This is what I hear all the time. Simple.
We are the party for freedom.
You have the freedom to choose your health care provider.
Fear of gun violence? No more!
You have the right to vote.
We are the message.
Freedom for all
I doubt I’m alone in this, but after reading that, all I could think of was George Orwell’s “1984.” Every single item on the Democrat checklist involves depending on the government to give you that “freedom” — which isn’t any definition of freedom I or anyone I know is familiar with.
Here’s what the Democrats are really saying:
The government will give you back your “right” to an abortion or hormone blockers or whatever else you want.
The goverment will take away or curtail the constitutually affirmed right to keep and bear arms for some of your fellow Americans, so that you can have the illusion of “safety.”
Because the government is making it more difficult for Democratic candidates in election fraud, you’ll feel that you can only vote for them.
Then again, when you see a Democrat like Swalwell using the word “freedom,” you might be reminded of a certain quote from Inigo Montoya in “The Princess Bride.”
