Supreme Court Rules School District Cannot Discipline Coach For Prayer on the Field – Opinion

A major victory for religious freedom was achieved by the US Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision.

It is a case of Kennedy vs. Bremerton Schools DistrictThis story involves a former football coach, who was fired because he was praying on the field. (Supreme Court Seems to Poit to Give Victory to the Coach Who Prayed at the 50 Yard Line).

The decision was made by Justice Neil Gorsuch.

Individuals who observe a religious practice are protected from reprisal by the First Amendment’s Free Exercise and Free Speech clauses. The Constitution does not permit the government to suppress religious expression.

To live in a democratic and free Republic, it is essential to respect religious expressions. A government agency tried to penalize an individual who engaged in personal religious observance. It was wrongly ruled that the entity had a responsibility to prohibit religious expressions, even though it allowed similar secular speech. That kind of discrimination is neither permitted nor required by the Constitution. Summary judgment is available to Mr. Kennedy on the grounds of his free speech and religious exercise claims.
