As we’ve previously reported, ever since Stacey Abrams declared her candidacy in the 2022 Georgia gubernatorial race, the push has been on from her campaign, her supporters, and the mainstream media (but I repeat myself) to completely revise her history of alleging that the 2018 gubernatorial election in the state was “stolen” from her by then-Secretary of State Brian Kemp.
Some blue-check leftists are even a bit funny claimed that she did “concede” the race (she didn’t). In other instances, the lie is one of omission, like in this New York Times puff piece on Abrams where not once was it mentioned that Abrams believes the election she lost by 55,000 votes was “rigged.” In contrast, any piece you read from the Times about former President Donald Trump makes sure to note that he believes the 2020 presidential election was stolen – even if the piece has nothing to do with elections.
But every once in a while, some brave soul in the press dares to engage in actual journalism, which is what happened Wednesday when Abrams appeared on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” for an interview with host Joe Kernen. Among other things, Kernen confronted Abrams over her 2018 claims, noting that some Republicans view her as the originator of “The Big Lie,” which has become the media’s/left’s term to describe any suggestion by Trump or his supporters that the 2020 election was unfairly decided:
“On the one hand, you say, I think at the time- ten days after the election, ‘Concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true or proper. As a woman of conscience and faith, I cannot concede,’” Kernen said on Wednesday, quoting Abrams. “And then it got more nuanced where you said, ‘Well, Kemp won under the rules of the game at the time, but the game was rigged against the voters in Georgia.’”
“So I can tell you for a fact that Republicans are going to use this against you and ask you questions. You’ve answered it before, but they’re going to say it’s hypocritical for Democrats to criticize people that questioned the integrity of an election when you did the same thing. One even said you were ahead of your time in claiming the results of an election were rigged,” Kernen said.
Abrams then proceeded to gaslight, proclaiming to Kernen that “What I’ve always spoken to is the ability of voters to cast their ballots and have their ballots counted. There is not a single politician, including myself, who is entitled to win an election, and that was never my point.”
She further went on to state that “The point is we have to make certain that the voters have the ability to register and stay on the rolls, cast their ballots, and have their ballots counted.”
“And sadly, in 2021, in response to the safest election in Georgia history, we saw the promulgation of SB 202, which makes it harder for voters to participate in elections,” Abrams proclaimed. “That should always concern every American, especially every Georgian.”

There are, of course, multiple problems with Abrams’ statements, with one of them being her saying that she never claimed she was entitled to win the 2018 race. Except that’s exactly what she did during an October 2021 rally with then-Virginia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe. Watch below as Abrams insinuates she should have been “entitled” to win that election:

Also, as my colleague Nicka Arama has pointed out, “black voters came out in greater numbers [in 2018] than in 2016 and she still lost.” In fact, Georgia had a 57% turnout rate in 2018 (and had record early voting numbers), which was pretty remarkable for an election year that didn’t have a president on the ballot.
But yeah, “voter suppression” or something.
Abrams has never been able to supply a shred of evidence to support her claim because there isn’t any. Yet, with rare exceptions, the mainstream media has allowed her to get away with it – the same MSM that after the 2020 presidential election said that any candidate who wouldn’t accept election results was a “danger to democracy.”
Kernen deserves credit for calling Abrams to this even though she responded with Little Miss Innocent.
As I’ve said before, Republicans should use every opportunity they get to remind people of what Abrams has said since she lost in November 2018, because she has done quite the juggling act in attempting to paint her race as different from the 2020 presidential election. Abrams’ “Big Lie” is one that should not stand, and her political opposition should respond accordingly with a megaphone every time she says it and every time her apologists in the media and on the left try to camouflage it.
