Spanish-Language Media’s Preferred Coverage of Uvalde Massacre: Push For Gun Control

Uvalde in Texas was the scene of horrific violence. A teen psychopath killed two teachers and 19 children at school. This has prompted correspondents and anchors from the Spanish-speaking corporate media to rush into coverage for gun control.

Here is just a sample of how Telemundo, Univision, CNN En Español and Estrella TV have given themselves over to lobbying on-air for gun control and opposition to the Second Amendment.

New gun control laws will be passed.

Are there going to be more stringent laws regarding gun control?

Can anything be done at this point?

It is a shameful way to insert politics in heartbreaking stories about tragedy. As new details about the shooter, shooting, and the response of local law enforcement continue emerge, it comes as a rude slap on the faces of people who have suffered the terrible loss of a family member in such tragic circumstances. Especially in a tight-knit community where most of the residents are Hispanic – and in all probability, watch those same news channels.

Shame on the newscasts that chose shameless advocacy to sensitivity. Muy mal.
