“The fact that Shian Mengini fabricated this serious allegation because she was angry with her husband and bored is both criminal and inexcusable.”
18-year-old Upland, Pennsylvania resident Shian Skylar Mengini falsely claimed to have been sexually assaulted by another woman because she was bored and angry at her husband of three months, Delaware County prosecutors said Thursday.
Mengini’s husband, Stephen Mengini, resigned his part-time position with the Upland Police Department the same day his wife confessed to fabricating her accusation, The Delaware County Daily Times reported.
“In Delaware County, we take any report of assault seriously. The fact that Shian Mengini fabricated this serious allegation because she was angry with her husband and bored is both criminal and inexcusable,” District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland said in a release Thursday announcing Mengini’s arrest.
According to CBS affiliate KYW-TV, Mengini told authorities on April 20 that she had been sexually assaulted by a woman she met online. The teen initially told police the woman came over to her Upland home and began kissing her. “Mengini claimed that she locked herself in a bathroom and told the woman she was married. Mengini said when she unlocked the bathroom door, the woman entered the bathroom and undressed Mengini, touching her in a sexual way, thereafter following her into the bedroom,” the District Attorney’s office said.
Five days later, Mengini’s husband told police his wife had been receiving threatening texts, supposedly from the other woman’s husband. Police learned after interviewing Mengini that she had sent the text messages to herself using spoofed numbers.
The District Attorney’s office said Mengini fabricated the story “because she was mad at her husband and had nothing to occupy her time as she did not have friends in the area.”
Online court records show Mengini was arraigned Wednesday on a false report charge, a second-degree misdemeanor offense. She is due back in court on May 16 for a preliminary hearing.
