The liberal media elite considers it important to have a gun. As you know, it’s used to protect politicians. For ordinary citizens who want to be protected, it’s not possible.
Jonathan Capehart, on Sunday’s MSNBC program, expressed this condescending and clueless opinion.
Capehart made comments on the Supreme Court decision in the BruenThe Court ruled that New York’s concealed carry permit requirements were too restrictive. Under New York’s regulations, applicants had to demonstrate “proper cause”—and wishing to protect themselves or their property was deemed insufficient.
The Court ruled that “the Second and Fourteenth Amendments protect an individual’s right to carry a handgun for self-defense outside the home.”
Capehart was horrified and said:
“There’s a phrase in the Supreme Court’s decision that just made my blood run cold. This was that someone should have the right to keep a concealed weapon, for “ordinary self-defense.”
Right! People who want security outside their home should spend thousands per year like The Squad. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, her far-left colleagues spent $325,000 collectively on security in 2021.
Capehart requested comment from Ritchie Torres the Democratic Congressman, who unbeknownst to New York’s restrictive restrictions was counter-productive and useless. He replied:
“My Bronx has experienced a 200% increase in shooting incidents and victims. In my own backyard, I’ve seen three police officers shot, an 11-month-old child, shot . . . In essence, the Supreme Court ruled that New York and other cities cannot now protect residents against gun violence.
Torres would not approve of this. He deplored the sudden spike in shootings while New York had restrictive laws. Not to mention that Democrats still hold more than 90% of the seats on the City Council and the Mayor’s Office. New York is no longer able to protect its residents from gun violence. It was obvious! All the more reason to recognize the right of ordinary citizens to protect themselves!
Vanderbilt professor Jonathan Metzl made another ridiculous argument. Metzl cited an example of a study where people explained why they wanted to have weapons. It was because of their fear of being attacked or gangbangers. Metzl claims that the interviewees have not been attacked by gangbangers or carjackers to their knowledge.
Metzl asserted that Metzl’s idea of a kind of was “this idea Associating with a racial or ethnic other. This is what happens when you tie into the past of gun ownership and race in this nation. It can have devastating effects, not only on guns, but also about race.
However, the professor has to realize that each day innocent people are attacked and robbed by criminals. Are they to be unarmed for the first time?
Capehart and his guests presented a prime example of liberal gun-think. They wanted ordinary people to be unarmed and blamed racism for their need to defend themselves.
Note: Until the age of seven, I lived with my family in a part of the Bronx now represented by Torres.
On his MSNBC show, Jonathan Capehart saying that the Supreme Court’s ruling that people should be allowed to carry arms for “ordinary self-defense” makes his “blood run cold” was sponsored in part by Progressive and Ensure.

10:19 am EDTJONATHAN CAPEHART – Congressman Torres, that is, you’re a New York City Congressman. From the Bronx. Are you concerned about what this Supreme Court ruling will mean for your life?
RITCHIE TORRES : Never have I been so concerned. The Supreme Court’s decision is going to deepen the epidemic of gun violence, which has become the leading cause of death of children and teenagers.
Gun violence to me is an actuality. The Bronx has witnessed a greater than 200% increase in both shooting deaths and incidences. I am a Bronx resident. In my own backyard, I’ve seen three police officers shot, an 11-month-old child, shot.
The Supreme Court made it possible for masses to carry guns in public in New York City. This is an unprecedented situation. It could also have grave implications for the safety of public transportation. According to the Supreme Court, New York City cannot protect its residents against gun violence.
CAPEHART there’s a phrase in the Supreme Court’s decision that just made my blood run cold. That was the idea that a person should be allowed to conceal a weapon in self-defense.
We have all heard stories of this nature.Someone felt threatened and shot another person, even though that other person was either black or brown.
JONATHAN METZL This is how do you feel, and about whom?
They interviewed Texas gun owners and asked them why they carry guns. The result?Gun owners will say “Well, you could pull up at a boega. A gangbanger might show up. Or a carjacker.”Oder something similar.
Then, the next question was: Has that ever happened? They replied, “Well, it’s not possible, but it might.”This idea of creating a racial Other, that ties in to the history of gun ownership and race within this country, can have terrible effects on guns as well as race.
