Washington — As I wrote many years ago, when an entity falls under the control of liberalism, it eventually loses all sense of what its purpose was to begin with. It can be small or large, or it could even become a country. You can hand over any school room or large city to a group of liberals and they will soon turn it into a classroom teaching gender studies and critical race theory. The great cities will then be used to feed huge numbers of people and defund the police. You will see cities dedicated to criminal rehabilitation after you have defunded the police. Many rehabilitation programs leave criminals feeling somewhat privileged.
We don’t see liberals becoming mayors of large cities or school districts anymore, because today there are very few liberals. The takeover is now from progressives and Woke Folk. These people are known as the vindicators of virtue, do-gooders and clarions for advanced thought. Their dominance is a cause for confusion. Consider their dominance of cities. Think about the schools. The Woke Folk and progressives dominate these schools, producing students that can’t read or do math but are able to solve the mysteries surrounding the genitalia of their students.
Parents are now rebelling against their governors. Ron DeSantis is from Florida. A bill was passed by the Florida legislature this week that is designed to ban nonsense from being taught in schools across Florida. You can read the rest of this article. The Washington Post put it, “The measure prohibits trainings that cause someone to feel guilty or ashamed about the past collective actions of their race or sex.” Apparently, the progressives and their Woke Folk allies in the classroom were intent on embarrassing white children because of the pigment of their skin and its supposed relationship to white supremacy. It is not clear in which classes white supremacy are taught, though I believe that none of the Tyrrells could be found guilty. I also doubt DeSantis would have been present when this was trendy.
In reality, white supremacy is not in fashion. Why is this being taught at schools? I think it sounds like another lie being made by critics of race theory. There are many deceits they use. For instance, that 1619 was the actual date the Republic was founded. This is the date when slaves arrived in America from Europe. But, it could also have been Arabs. America was actually founded in 1776. And even after all of the talk about race, gender and any other topics ends, America will celebrate July 4, 201776 as America’s birthday.
In the course of this debate over race in the Florida public schools, Florida state Sen. Audrey Gibson, a Democrat, asked the rhetorical question, “Is it possible to talk about slavery, or the fact that white people, not black people, were enslavers?” Well, I do not know how obsessed with the question of a person’s skin color Gibson might be. It is not true that anyone alive today has been enslaved or benefited from slavery which ended over 157 years ago. It is a topic that I am more interested in today than any time else in my entire life. Furthermore, it seems that the topic is being discussed more often than ever before in American history. I can’t imagine that such a discussion will bring about any positive change. Talking about race as the critics of race insist that it be discussed only makes the tendency to continue the discussion.
DeSantis is right to lead this band of indignant parents — white and black and Asian — in putting an end to that claptrap. Its message is false, and that is the real reason why DeSantis is doing this. Today, no one from America had any involvement in enslaving blacks. I will end this column inspired by today’s headlines: Glory To Ukraine!
