Scarborough Admits Trump Got It Right on Europe’s Dependence on Russian Oil

Joe Scarborough was unable to swallow the difficult pill. On Wednesday’s Morning JoeTrump hater par excellence, Angela Merkel, reluctantly admits that Donald Trump did it right in his remarks to Angela Merkel about Germany’s dependence upon Russian oil.

Scarborough mentioned “oil”, but Trump was more concerned about Merkel’s acceptance of the Nord Stream 2 pipe, which will deliver Russian gas. Here’s a 2018 Reuters article quoting Trump said that Germany was “constrained to Russia” by the agreement for the gas pipeline.

However, before Trump is praised, Scarborough predictedably lashed out at Trump, calling his treatment of Putin, “contemptible and utterly contemptible.”

Scarborough—always eager to play the good ol’, down-home country boy — quoted one of his mother’s folksy sayings for purposes of praising Trump:

“One other thing that we need to mention, As contemptible and I would say absolutely contemptible as Donald Trump’s attitude toward Vladimir PutinFrom the beginning He did, however, give Angela Merkel hell over that pipeline.And telling her to get over Germany’s dependency on Russian oil [gas.] My mom always used to tell me that even squirrels can sometimes find nuts.This was what he discovered. “He got it right.”

David Ignatius from the Washington PostIt should be noted Trump had also the right to press Europe for increased defense spending. Scarborough was forced to say, “So the blind squirrel found two eggs.”

JOE SCARBOROUGH : We have one other thing to mention. While Donald Trump is as contemptible and utterly disdainful towards Vladimir Putin since the beginning of his presidency, Angela Merkel was not spared by him.And telling her to get over Germany’s dependency on Russian oil. 

IGNATIUS: Not paying NATO for its services, but also not paying NATO for theirs. 

SCARBOROUGH: Like my mother used to say: Even a blind squirrel can occasionally find a nut. [Mika Brzezinski laughs uproariously.] He found the perfect nut. This is the one thing he got right. He was just poking Germans.

IGNATIUS: And Europe was told by him that they should spend more money on defense. He also had the right opinion.

SCARBOROUGH: Thus, the blind squirrel discovered two nuts.
