San Francisco’s Mayor Has A ‘Genius’ Idea To Stop Looting Over The Holiday – Opinion

California has been at the forefront of social policies for many decades. Before it was fashionable, we were already defunding police officers!

We didn’t exactly take money out of law enforcement budgets until recently, but we “defunded” them by taking away their ability to make arrests, protect citizens and maintain peace.

Some people still don’t believe this, but Prop 47 is a law – deceptively titledSafe Schools and Neighborhoods Act’ – that reduces many felonies to misdemeanors and provides for the early release of certain violent offenders and sex offenders. Prop 47 has one of the most bizarre provisions. It makes it an offense to steal goods worth up to $949 from any retail store on any particular visit. That’s right- visit. You can clean out the deodorant section at Walgreens, go back to your drug den, then come back an hour later and hit the diapers and feminine products if that’s your jam.

You’ve seen the videos. These are the things people do. This is how they get what they want, and then walk off. They’re well-versed in the laws. They understand that the law is not in their power to stop it. It’s not just San Francisco that is seeing this nonsense growing, it has pretty much permeated every part of the state by this point.

What’s worse – the broken windows theory has most definitely applied to the chaos in California. The tacit permission for criminals to raid stores is a powerful incentive. They are now more organized and targeting larger markets. Los Angeles and San Francisco have witnessed large numbers of violently organized theft rings flooding high-end stores like Nordstroms and Louis Vitton, and walking off with thousands of dollars worth of inventory. Although some customers have suffered injuries, retailers are most definitely hurt. However, business owners that suffer from financial difficulties will not receive any recompense. Not calling the police works. The police are useless if they can’t arrest the criminals, and then release them back on the streets. This is why the criminal rings grow bigger and more bold.

To find the solution, you will need to take bolder and larger steps.

So what “big and bold” idea has San Francisco Mayor London Breed come up with to stem the tide of this crime wave in her city?

Limit parking.

Or, limit traffic.

London made a brief statement about the plans, but didn’t give any further details.

“We’re going to be making some changes to Union Square and how cars are able to access,” Breed said. “There will be limited access in terms of when you come to this area.”

That’s it. That’s the big idea. In an economy that is struggling to rebound under the weight of a careless administration and egregious COVID policies, Breed’s big, bold plan is to make it harder for people to do their shopping or take home their packages. I guess if you can’t keep some criminals away from the store, you just keep everyone away from the store.

Simply amazing.

To make matters worse, Governor Hair Gel Gavin Newsom has said his “big, bold” idea is to increase investigations and police presence around retail through the holidays. I wonder where they’ll park their cars.

What good are more police if they can’t arrest and detain suspects? Is it worth the effort if anyone they arrest is just a few hours away?

All this is Democrat bloviating. They shot California in face with useless, “woke” legislation and now they’re trying to fix it by put a dirty, used bandaid on a gunshot wound.
