Kamala Harris’s land is not happy according to some reports. It’s likely a big factor in why we have seen so many of her staff fleeing for the exits. I reported on the tenth top aide — Nancy McEldowney, Kamala’s National Security Adviser — announcing she was leaving this week.
My colleague Sister Toldjah reported on a new book that’s out that is revealing more of the split between the Biden White House and Kamala Harris. It has Joe Biden’s Comms director Kate Bedingfield blaming Harris for the issues.
There’s a new report from the book about how difficult Harris is and what she expects. Harris became upset when White House staff refused to let Joe Biden enter a room. However, she didn’t when Biden did.
“Some of Harris’s advisers believed the president’s almost entirely white inner circle did not show the vice president the respect she deserved,” Martin and Burns write. “Harris worried that Biden’s staff looked down on her; she fixated on real and perceived snubs in ways the West Wing found tedious.”
Harris sent a dispatcher at one point [incoming chief of staff Tina]Flournoy plans to meet with ANITA DUNN (top Biden adviser) to voice dissatisfaction at the lack of support from the White House for Harris upon entering the room. “The vice president took it as a sign of disrespect,” according to the excerpt.
Dunn told West Wing Playbook that she wasn’t “going to comment except to say that everyone in the West Wing has a high degree of respect for the Vice President and the hard work she is doing for this President and our country. Particularly me.”
Joe Biden does have issues with race, as you can see from the countless sketchy remarks. I don’t know about his staff. However, being angry about others not getting up to greet you in the door seems more than a little sensitve. Joe Biden and she are not royalty.
Harris was also reported to be upset by a Vogue cover two weeks prior to the inauguration, which featured Harris in Converse sneakers and skinny pants.

That’s what she was known for at the time, so it made sense for the magazine to run that. But she was “wounded” because she thought it didn’t hold her up as a world leader. “She felt belittled by the magazine, asking aides: Would Vogue depict another world leader this way?” Wearing sneakers doesn’t diminish looking like a world leader — cackling on the world stage, not understanding foreign policy, and failing to do anything constructive does.
The Biden team told the Harris team this was not the time to be going to war with Vogue over a comparatively “trivial aesthetic issue” — that these were “first-world problems.”
Harris was also likely upset as she desired a more straightforward assignment in her portfolio. For example, dealing with Nordic countries that have no problems. However, she was able to get the immigration and border control assignment. This would have been a disaster. Joe Biden tried to give her this task? Maybe. Of course, she didn’t make it any better with a variety of gaffes on the issue.
The book even notes that Jill Biden wasn’t on board with the choice of Kamala Harris.
“Speaking in confidence with a close adviser to her husband’s campaign, the future First Lady posed a pointed question. The United States has millions of citizens, she said. Why, she asked, do we have to choose the one who attacked Joe?” Politico reported the book stated.
Is it any wonder why the Biden-Harris team is such a mess and often doesn’t seem to be on the same page? Harris believed she’d get featured assignments. Then she’d just walk into the big job and take over from Biden. The Biden folks probably thought she’d just be silent and compliant, like most in that position. Instead, they got someone who wanted much more than she’s getting out of the job.
It is also a mystery why Biden’s side is leaking so much information now to her. Make her look bad and they will also look bad. It’s not exactly smart. Someone has her back, even though it is a bad strategy.
