Anchor Norah O’Donnell led off by reporting on President BidenAnd Vice President Kamala Harris politicizing Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Of course, she didn’t put it that way though:
Today President Biden and Vice President Harris paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., vowing to carry the civil rights icon’s legacy by pushing for greater protection of voting rights.
O’Donnell then tossed to chief White House correspondent Nancy Cordes, who aired soundbites of Biden, Harris, and Martin Luther King III bloviating how “our freedom to vote is under assault” and “the attack on our democracy is real.”
Next up, it was time to make another attempt at bullying Democrat Senators Kyrsten Sinema (AZ) and Joe Manchin (WV) for their ongoing refusal to bend to the demands of Biden and the far left:
Arizona’s Kyrsten Sinema and West Virginia’s Joe Manchin both say they support voting reform but they don’t back a rule change that would enable Democrats to pass that reform bill without Republican support.
As if the segment couldn’t get any more biased, Cordes bemoaned that Republican Senator Mitt Romney (UT) wouldn’t go along with the Democrat’s bill, afterward falsely claiming “19 states have passed more restrictive voting laws.”
Cordes also played part of a colleague Jeff Pegues’s interview with Kristen Clarke, who heads the Justice Department’s “Civil Rights Division” and let her say without evidence or pushback that “voting discrimination is alive and well. There is no doubt that we are seeing efforts to make it harder for people of color and other marginalized groups to vote.”
To end the segment, Cordes touted a CBS poll that claimed “more than four in ten Americans think President Biden is not focusing enough on voting rights and race relations.” This is hard to believe considering the average American has better things to worry about than Mythical attacks on “voting rights.” Common sense would tell you that issues like inflation and a weakened economy are bigger issues.

6.40.19 pmNORAH O’DONNELL: Today President Biden and Vice President Harris paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., vowing to carry the civil rights icon’s legacy by pushing for greater protection of voting rights. But as CBS’s Nancy Cordes reports, getting legislation passed won’t be easy.
NANCY COORDDES: Today, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. family marched to Washington in support of electoral reform.
MARTIN LUTHER KING EVIII: We’re tired of being patient.
CORDES: Both the President and Vice-President sounded an alarm.
KAMALA MALA HARRIS, VICE PRESIDENT: The assault on our right to vote continues.
JOE BODEN, PRESIDENT: This attack is on democracy.
CORDES: Yet, the Senate is set to vote down a significant voting reform bill as early as tomorrow. This has advocates turning on the heat for two Senate Democrats.
MARTIN LUTHER KING XIII: Their names will be forgotten by history.
CORDES: Arizona’s Kyrsten Sinema and West Virginia’s Joe Manchin both say they support voting reform but they don’t back a rule change that would enable Democrats to pass that reform bill without Republican support.
Senator Mitchell Romney: That White House call was never made to me.
CORDES: One Republican, Utah Senator Mitt Romney said he’d be open to negotiation but he doesn’t support the proposed legislation which would allow early voting and vote by mail in all 50 states and make election day a national holiday. In the last year, 19 states passed stricter voting laws.
KRISTEN CLARKE: Voting discrimination still exists.
CORDES – Kristen Clark was the first African American woman in charge of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.
CLARKE: It is clear that there are efforts being made to deny voting rights to people of color or other marginalized communities.
CORDES: A CBS poll has revealed that more than 4 in 10 Americans believe President Biden doesn’t pay enough attention to voting rights or race relations. However, his predecessor pushes for greater restrictions in the states where he lost 2020.
FRANKLIN TRUMP, AN EX-PRESIDENT: The legislation they have is not a bill for voting rights. It’s a bill to prevent voting fraud.
CORDES. All this leaves President Biden in a quandary: How to demonstrate to his base that he is doing something about voter suppression, when federal legislation seems hopelessly blocked? Norah?
