Poll Reveals Just How Much the Jan. 6 Committee Has Failed – Opinion

The Democrats don’t have too many options left to try to sway the midterms.

With anger at the decision to have an abortion, they tried it. Dobbs decision. That hasn’t worked.

They have tried to prime the outrage meter by demonizing the “ultra MAGA” crowd, as well as going after Donald Trump and other Republicans with the Jan. 6 Committee.

They have wasted so much money and time trying to promote their political agenda, rather than actually doing the jobs of those they were supposed to. It is my hope that we will get an accounting of how much money they have spent. Ratings and prior polls have demonstrated that most people don’t watch.

But there’s a new Monmouth poll out showing just how much that Democratic effort has failed.

89 percent of the respondents said that the hearings haven’t changed their opinion of the matter. So they didn’t manage to sway people with their claims. It was actually the reverse. Only 38 percent thought Trump was directly responsible for the events of Jan. 6, compared to 42 percent prior the hearings. 56 percent of respondents said that Trump was either not directly responsible (26%) or that they did nothing wrong (32%).

More than 8 in 10 Republicans still have a favorable opinion of Trump, and that’s held steady since November 2020 and 40 percent of the respondents would back him if he ran again.

Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University noted:

What was really striking was the response to a prompt stating “Some say that the Jan. 6 committee’s main aim is to ensure President Trump can’t run in 2024.” Sixty percent agreed with that statement, including 62 percent of Democrats and 70 percent of Republicans. This view was further reinforced by Chairman Thompson’s, Vice-chair Cheney’s and other members’ bizarre decision to end all hearings repeatedly with calls for Trump opposition in the coming elections. This was not subtle.

I believe two Democratic threshold decisions were responsible for the low impact of the hearings. First, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others decided that the Committee would focus on reinforcing “a narrative” rather than follow prior investigatory commissions with an open and balanced inquiry.

A television producer was brought in to assist members in reading teleprompters. Witnesses were restricted in their roles as reaffirming statements made by members about the riot. No attempt was made to provide alternative views or interpretations. It played into criticism of a “show trial” environment–an image that was magnified by Cheney declaring in the last hearing that Trump family and associates had come forward to “confess” and encouraging others to do the same.

Not to mention the fact that while promising evidence of smoking guns, the Committee provided no such evidence.

You guys did a great job. Your bias effort only revealed your bias. It is political, and everyone can see it. Talk about Democrats going down and being burned.
