Overseas Sports Panicking Over Omicron; Will U.S. Follow?

The Omicron coronavirus variant wreaked havoc on sports overseas this weekend. This news makes it clear that the USA is ready to make a loud alarm about sports in America. Yes, it’s Dr. Anthony Fauci, who’s already using this development to apply another full-court press for vaccinations.

Three sports in Europe and Africa — golf, cricket and rugby – have already been impacted by reactions to the arrival of Omicron. Several European players withdrew their participation in a DP World Tour competition held in Johannesburg (South Africa) on September 20th. The Netherlands withdrew from a South African counterpart’s cricket series. The postponement of rugby games was recommended. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recommended the suspension of flights until more becomes known about Omicron.

Could sports and flight shutdowns soon be on the horizon? Don’t put it past Dr. Fauci; his trigger finger ever ready to recommend shut-it-all-down mode. For now, it’s yet another tool for him and the Biden Administration to push vaccinations.

“So it clearly … has the capability of transmitting rapidly,” said Fauci, the doctor of doom. “That’s the thing that’s causing us now to be concerned, but also to put the pressure on ourselves now to do something about our preparation for this.”

COVID-19 infections and deaths are currently in decline in the U.S., but they are on the increase in Africa.

Wasn’t the Delta variant supposed to be the second coming of the plague in America? Wasn’t that variant over-hyped and essentially used as a scare tactic to pressure people to get vaccinated? Is this the future?

The fears that there would be a flood of people watching sports in the fall of this year were unfounded as many fans returned to college, pro, and amateur football, hockey, and basketball. How many times can health experts cry the sky is falling?

Dr. Fauci was wrong to say that Omicron is causing a return of unidentified spectators at football stadiums. However, another well-known health official does not seem as optimistic about Omicron. The director of the National Institutes of Health (USA) Dr. Francis Collins hasn’t found any evidence Omicron can cause more severe illness than the previous versions.

Dr. Fauci, the White House chief medical adviser on COVID-19, told CNN’s Brianna Keilar:

We’ll take a decision when we have more information. While you always have these items on the table, it’s important to not say you won’t until you know why. That’s the reason why we’re rushing now to get that scientific data to try and make an informed decision about something like that.”

The devil’s in the details and what he’s not saying. What “decision” is being considered? What “things” are being put on the table? Is it likely to result in the shutdown of other businesses, churches, and sporting venues?
