On the actual debate PBS NewsHouron Friday night, between Trump-haters. New York TimesColumnist David Brooks hated Joe Biden’s vilification of his opponent like Jefferson Davis. Washington Post Jonathan Capehart, columnist thought that it would be a great way to fight “voter subversion”.
Judy Woodruff, just like many network anchors, sugar-coated all the gossips to make Biden’s strongest remarks on why voting rights matters.
DAVID BROOKS: I thought 80 percent of it was fine, a very good speech is. The speech ended with some rhetorical highlights. They were too opinionated and exaggerated. To have an honest election, fair and legally certified one we need Democrats across the nation to fulfill their tasks.
In 2020, the majority of Republicans accomplished their jobs. To make it a partisan issue, and have to, to me The supercharged rhetoric of “Are you on Abraham Lincoln’s side or Jefferson Davis?” that upset a lot Republicans made them angry. This makes it difficult for Republican elected officials to do their best work in their party.
Capehart disagreed strongly:
On PBS @NewsHour… an actual debate. David Brooks did not like Biden calling his opponents Jim Crow/Bull Connor racisms. Jonathan Capehart loved the idea. He won’t accept you serious if you don’t enjoy it. pic.twitter.com/BMMdeAfjhz

CAPEHART
Many people are curious about what’s happening locally and at the state level. It’s not only about voter suppression. This is what drives this debate.
Also People should be angry because the president made a clear distinction that people are either with Dr. King (as he stated), in terms opening up America’s promise to all, or George Wallace (who was more concerned about keeping power in their hands for its sake and putting it in the hand of a few elite white men, which is exactly where we are at the moment.
The last word I’ll say is that after four years as a President who took a blowtorch at the American presidency and to the Constitution, our values, and the peaceful transfer power, Decency is generally, I find it difficult to believe that people are upset by President Biden’s fight for American values.
Biden still uses a blowtorch for decency. But this time Capehart is in love with it.
Brooks said again: “I don’t think it is helpful to compare Republicans to Bull Connor, Jefferson Davis or any other type of rhetoric. This is not 1861. Even the idea that he believes that the Georgia law, Jim Crow 2, is a good thing is not true. But the overheated rhetoric, I think, has the effect of making this just a Republican-vs.-Democratic issue. And it should not be a Republican-vs.-Democratic issue. This should involve both Republicans and Democrats and Trump’s cult.
Capehart responded, saying: “All that I can say to you is, we are able polite ourselves to death.” It is crucial that the president clearly explains what’s at stake.
PBS comes to you because of…you. By Fidelity.
