If you were watching NBC’s Meet the PressYou received your Sunday dose of alternative history and liberal bias on Sunday. This is not to say that it wasn’t your average episode. Chuck Todd was joined by his panel guests to discuss the conflict in Ukraine. New York TimesHelene Cooper, a Pentagon correspondent, speculated on the European situation if Donald Trump were still in power.
After airing a soundbite of the former President at a rally he held in South Carolina in which Trump said if he was still President, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin would never have invaded Ukraine, Cooper was clearly triggered.
“I would love to just game out where we would be right now if Donald Trump was still President and Vladimir Putin had invaded Ukraine” Cooper interjected. “First of all, Trump would already have pulled us out of NATO because that’s what he wanted to do. He had already begun to pull American troops out Europe. The Pentagon kind of stalled out until Biden came into office.”
Cooper continued her alternative history-filled rant claiming that Trump would’ve said “it’s not our problem, Ukraine is not our problem, that’s it, go off and do — this is not our business, and NATO, at this point, would have been completely divided. You would see disunity, you would see other NATO countries peeling off.”
She ended her fantasy by demanding people don’t listen to Trump: “let’s make sure when Trump is saying this stuff about how much differently — if Donald Trump was President right now would be in a completely different place.”
What is journalism? A journalist’s job is to gather facts and present them to the public. The job isn’t to make up scenarios that can never be proven one way or another. This is not the job. New York Times we’re talking about so nobody should be surprised that one of their reporters is telling cooking up such stories on national television.

Eastern, 11:26HELENE COOPER: I would love to just game out where we would be right now if Donald Trump was still President and Vladimir Putin had invaded Ukraine. First and foremost, Trump would have already pulled the US out of NATO. Trump had already begun to pull American troops from Europe. Biden took office and the Pentagon was kind of stuck. His first words would have been, It’s Not Our Problem, Ukraine is not our concern, get on with it. NATO at that point would be completely split. Disunity would be seen, and other NATO members would begin to fall apart. What are we going to do then? It would end the alliance. Let’s be sure that Trump doesn’t say this about how differently it would have been if Donald Trump were to become President.
