Paul Pelosi (the husband of Nancy Pelosi), was arrested Saturday night for drunk driving. Three networks put themselves into protection mode. They were allowed to cover the story for only 117 seconds. ABC’s coverage was the paltriest, just a scant 22 seconds on Sunday night.
The NBC-CBS morning and night newscasts were slightly more successful: An still pathetic 39 second on NBC, and 56 seconds respectively on CBS. This is the On World News Tonight, Sunday, Linsey Davis offered what would be the network’s only coverage (so far):

On Sunday’s CBS Weekend News, anchor Errol Barnett offered Pelosi PR, making sure to note that the Democratic Speaker was nowhere near the scene: “Speaker Pelosi released a statement saying she won’t comment on this private matter that occurred, she says in her statement, while she was on the east coast.”
On Monday’s Today, Sheinelle Jones underlined the same point: “The House Speaker wasn’t with her husband at the time. She was in Rhode Island to deliver the commencement address at Brown University.”

It shouldn’t surprise that ABC allows only 22 seconds of coverage. It has been a tradition of flattering Speaker Pelosi. As far back as January 2007. The same month, she also did a story about picking up a speck of trash.World News Tonight anchor Charles Gibson gushed over video of her holding a grandchild: “It seemed the ultimate in multitasking: Taking care of the children, and the country.”

Just before midnight, he was pulled over in napa County, California. He was later released on $5,000 bail. Pelosi issued a statement denying any comment regarding the private matter she said occurred while she was in California.
