No Background Check for Full-Auto, MSNBC’s Ignorance of Gun Laws

The liberal media don’t even know what gun laws are on the books, yet they’re trying to dictate the laws that would see many firearms stolen from average Americans. Such was the case on Tuesday’s edition of the always-off-the-rails Deadline: White HouseMSNBC. Between former FBI official Frank Figliuzzi and former conservative radio host turned Bulwark sellout, Charlie Sykes, they would have you believe anyone can purchase a fully “automatic” firearm anywhere and that background checks don’t exist.

Asked by fill-in host and leftist radical John Heilemann to speak for all law enforcement agencies in the U.S. for what gun control measures they wanted, Figliuzzi suggested they wanted “permit or license to buy a gun” and a “want people to be checked” before they purchase a gun, and so-called “red flag laws.” “They would love to see some tighter control on automatic [weapons],”He concluded.

The United States has banned automatic weapons since early 1900s. It was a result of criminals trying to resist prohibition. A Class 3 firearms licence is required to be able to legally own an automatic weapon. It can only currently be obtained through the ATF. Gun dealers and gun manufacturers are not permitted to have them.

So Frank, how do you propose putting “tighter control” on that? Or do you not know what you’re talking about?

Figliuzzi was said to be speaking on behalf of all law enforcement agencies, And yet, Sheriff’s offices in Colorado, New Mexico, and New York (to name a few) have either refused to enforce new gun control measures or have publically spoken out against them. He was speaking on behalf of liberal departments.

In the second hour, Heilemann looked to Sykes to fret about the state of our democracy if we don’t pass sweeping gun restrictions (even though we’re a constitutional republic for just this kind of impassioned fever spell). “If we can’t enact them into legislation – I would say if we couldn’t enact them a decade ago but certainly after Uvalde – if we can’t enact them, what does it say about the state of American democracy?”He declared.

“And I’m really glad you raised that because I don’t want to be really too dark about all this, but the great threat to democracy is its failure to deliver,”Sykes was warned.

Further, he lashed out at Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) and suggested that background checks don’t exist or aren’t widely utilized when selling firearms:

You know Nick was right. This isn’t a debate about these pieces of legislation. Ted Cruz is one of the many people who believe we should pay more attention to mental health. OK, it is true, but this doesn’t mean anything if background checks don’t exist so that the police can check if somebody with mental illness or danger can apply for a gun permit..

Background checks for purchasing a firearm are required by federal law. Background checks are mandatory in every state. This is a common demand the liberal media make when they falsely claim that a “gun show loophole” exists. They also don’t understand that firearms purchased online need to be transferred to licensed gun dealers where a background check is then performed.

Walmart and Wayfair sponsored these falsehoods regarding gun laws. You can find their contact information here.

FRANK FIGLIUZZI (The answer is simple): I can do this because so many organizations of police have said what they think about it. This includes the largest Texas law enforcement organization that publicly criticized the governor on September 1, when he stated you don’t require a permit, training or license in order to purchase a firearm.

People should be checked by law enforcement officers. They are asking for a comprehensive background check. The majority of police officers would agree that there should be tighter regulation on long-range automatic and semiautomatic guns. Red flag laws would be welcomed on a nationwide basis.

JOHN HeILEMANN (Charlie), universal background checks and red flag laws are issues supported by more that 80 percent. They also include raising the minimum age for semiautomatic weapons ownership. If we can’t enact them into legislation – I would say if we couldn’t enact them a decade ago but certainly after Uvalde – if we can’t enact them, what does it say about the state of American democracy?

CHARLIE SYKES:  Well, see, that’s the challenge. It’s a great question. While I am not going to get too deep into this topic, the greatest threat to democracy’s ability to deliver is its inability to do so. People will start to believe that there is no government capable of performing basic functions, such as keeping your child alive. This could be a serious problem.

You know Nick was right. This isn’t a debate about these pieces of legislation. What is the case for background checks or red flag laws? Ted Cruz says that it is important to pay more attention to mental health. Okay, that is fine. But it’s useless if background checks are not allowed so police can decide if someone who’s mentally ill or dangerous can obtain a firearm.
