Nets Fret That ‘Strong New Conservative Majority’ Could Doom Roe

The three network networks expressed concern Wednesday about the “strong new conservative majority,” on the “solidly conservative”In a crucial case currently being reviewed, the Supreme Court may actually reverse Roe vs. Wade. Yet the same morning shows never identified who might be the “solid” or “strong” liberals on the Supreme Court.

Good Morning America journalists sounded the most alarmed as co-host Michael Strahan opened the show by warning viewers: “Roe vs. Wade on the line. The Supreme Court set to hear the biggest challenge to abortion rights in decades.”

Senior national correspondent Terry Moran fretted, “Mississippi has asked the justices point blank to overturn Roe vs. Wade aThis is before a court with strong, conservative new majority including three Justices named by President Trump.”

In case you didn’t get the concern, Moran described the current Supreme Court as one “that many legal observers says is more sympathetic to abortion opponents than any court maybe ever.”

More on Today show, Pete Williams echoed the concern of the pro-abortion side: “It’s the case that opponents of abortion have long been waiting for and women’s groups have been dreading and This is before a conservatively minded group of justices.”

He added, “Two consistent defenders of abortion rights, Anthony Kennedy, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg are gone, replaced by Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Comey Barrett.” Notice that while the new justices are identified as “solidly conservative,” Kennedy and Ginsburg are not called liberal for their abortion extremism.

You can find more information here CBS Mornings, Jan Crawford parroted the worry about the new Trump justices: “Three brand new conservative justices all appointed by former President Trump who supported overturning Roe, some see this case as their best chance.”

On ABC, Moran cited polls, saying, “But the majority of Americans, they want Roe vs. Wade to stand.” On CBS, Crawford at least noted some support for abortion restrictions: “A CBS News poll found a two to one majority supports keeping Roe V. Wade in place with some Americans saying that that would be a backwards step for women. But if Roe is overturned, most Americans say there should still be some restrictions on abortion.”

On any network, there is no mention of how out-of-step America is with abortion. Many European countries including France are strict about elective abortion, with the exception of France, which tends to be liberal.

ABC Value City Furniture, CBS by Ensure, and NBC By Lexus sponsored this concern on the pro-abortion side. To let them know your thoughts, click on these links.

MICHAEL STRAHAN: Roe Vs. Wade is on the line. Supreme Court to hear largest challenge in years to abortion rights.

7.09 am ET

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS : Now we turn to the fight over abortion rights. Protesters have assembled at the Supreme Court, where they will hear oral arguments. This is the most significant challenge to Roe V. Wade in many decades. Terry Moran, a senior national correspondent is reporting the story. Terry, good morning.

George. There are hundreds of demonstrators already here, as you said. Today is expected to see thousands. There are no higher stakes. This could prove to be the crucial battle, as Roe vs. Wade will come into play. The justices are considering a Mississippi law that would prohibit abortions within 15 weeks. Incest and rape are not allowed. Roe, and other case law states cannot ban abortions before 24 weeks after the viability of a pregnancy.

Mississippi asked the court to declare Roe vs. Wade invalid. This is before a court that has a new strong conservative majority and includes three former president Trump justices. Many legal observers believe that this court is sympathetic more to abortion opponents than any other court. However, the overwhelming majority of Americans want Roe Vs. Wade to be upheld. According to an ABC News/The Washington Post poll, three quarters of Americans think that a woman should have the ability to decide whether or not to have an abortion. There’s no ruling till next summer, probably, but we will learn a lot this morning about these justices and about the future of reproductive rights in America, George?

PETE WILLIAMS – This is the most crucial legal confrontation over abortion rights in more than three decades. The case is one that abortion opponents and feminist groups have waited for, and which will be presented before a group of conservative justices. The Court challenges the constitutional protection of a woman’s choice.

JAN CRAWFORD – This case is a chance for some to succeed, with three conservative justices appointed by Trump (an ex-president who championed overturning Roe).

WOMAN – I hope they can outlaw Roe V. Wade.

CRAWFORD – And the conservative-leaning state are prepared. 22 states have already passed legislation to prohibit abortion in all cases, or nearly all of them, if Roe is repealed. However liberaler states continue to take steps to ensure access to abortion.

CRAWFORD – Now, the court of public opinion is also weighing in. CBS news found that a 2 to 1 majority support Roe V. Wade. Some Americans disagree and say that this would be an unbalanced step for women. However, the majority of Americans believe that abortion should be restricted even if Roe is repealed. Vlad?
