My headlines: DHS Sec. Mayorkas: ‘Quite Incorrect’ That U.S. Disinformation Board Will Decide What’s True

“That is the farthest thing from the truth,” DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas declared Wednesday, when Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said that the government’s new Disinformation Governance Board (DGB) will decide, and tell Americans, what constitutes “truth.”

“The government’s gonna tell us what’s true – what could possibly go wrong?” Sen. Kennedy asked Sec. Mayorkas in a Senate Hearing.

“That is quite incorrect. That is quite incorrect,” Sec. Mayorkas declared.

Later, Mayorkas called Kennedy’s characterization of the Disinformation Governance Boards as the Truth Police a “misstatement” and “the farthest thing from the truth”:

“Senator, it is so very important that I correct a misstatement that you made that the Department of Homeland Security is going to be the Truth Police.

”That is the farthest thing from the truth.”

“We address disinformation when it threatens the security of the homeland,” Sec. Mayorkas claimed.

Mayorkas’ leadership, DHS declared climate change to be a danger. DHS states that the climate crisis is a serious threat to DHS operations, as well the American population in an online webpage.

Sec. Mayorkas repeatedly refused to directly answer Sen. Kennedy’s questions.

Sen. Kennedy asked if the DGB would investigate things like former President Barack Obama’s infamous claim that, under Obamacare, “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” or former President Bill Clinton’s claim that he did not have sex with then-intern Monica Lewinsky – or if the DGB will be given its own police or its own enforcement authority.

Sec. Mayorkas simply repeated his claim that the DGB “does not have operational authority or capability,” but merely combats information the government considers a threat to national security.
