Samstag’s Cross Connection, race-obsessed MSNBC host Tiffany Cross served up the kind of vitriol against white Americans that regular viewers of the show have come to expect as she allowed a frequent guest to deliver a rant against America — and white Americans, in particular — to mark the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
After lauding liberal Native American activist Gyasi Ross as a “show favorite,” she then switched to what appeared to be a pre-recorded “essay” from him with his thoughts about the holiday. MSNBC does not have to answer his provocative arguments.
Ross began by claiming that it is a “pathology of white America” to see their ancestors as improving North America after they arrived, he then added: “But I’m still trying to find out what indigenous people received of value. You don’t need to bring stuffing or biscuits. These settlers introduced violence and genocide to the area.
Ross also supports the demolishment of Mount Rushmore.
He invoked police-involved violence as he added:
Genocide and violence remain on the menu. State-sponsored violence against Native Americans or black Americans is commonplace. Violent private white supremacy, which is also subsidized, is widely celebrated. From Stonechild Chiefstick to Mike Brown to Renee Davis to Breonna Taylor to Eric Garner, indigenous and black people are still being murdered by those paid to protect us.
Despite the fact that FBI and Washington Post statistics demonstrate that Native and African Americans are shot and killed by police officers at a rate that is proportionate to crime patterns — including many more white people, who are rarely noticed by the media — on screen were seen a number of victims of police shootings from those racial groups.
And even though whites commit homicides across racial lines at a relatively low per capita rate compared to other groups, he then portrayed whites as killers of minorities. This is odd, as Ahmaud Abery’s accused murderers are not currently facing reprisal.
Ahmaud Abery to Trayvon Mar, Yet, white Americans still kill Native Americans and black Americans in a state of fear. They brought chattel slavery to Africans and Native people that still happens through the Prison-industrial complex where descendants of slaved Africans or Natives are held at far disparate numbers. It is the truth of Thanksgiving.
He complains about the prison-industrial complex, but he ignores the fact the prison incarceration rate generally matches crime rates. In fact, Native Americans make up about 2.9 percent of U.S. residents but only 2.5 percent of those incarcerated. Additionally, even in a relatively high year (like 2017), no more than about two percent of those shot and killed by police officers are Native Americans.
The liberal activist then called for reparations and came to the following conclusion:
We still wait for white Americans who can bring value to our lives — white Americans that match the Thanksgiving mythology. Freedom, justice, equality, Reparations of two-and-a-half billion acres stolen Native land —Reparations for Native children raped for 246 years — compensations for their theft.Stop killing! It is still happening. It’s not over. Restore the land. Match the mythology. Only then can we all feel equally grateful. Peace.

TIFFANY CROOSS: Before commercial break, I’d like to remind you that the myth of first Thanksgiving was just that. It’s a legend. I turn the mic over to show favorite and my friend, Gyasi Ross, to explain. This is what’s next.

CROSS: Thanksgiving is just around the corner and I thought it was time to give the microphone to Cross ConnectionGyasi Ross, my favorite friend and favourite for this week’s “Essay,” and his perspective on Thanksgiving and history that you may not have read in school.
GYASI ROSS, NATIVE AMERICAN ACTIVIST: …The mythology of Thanksgiving closely mirrors the mythology of America. White Americans are drawn to this mythology because it is their own version of the American dream. The white settlers arrive in a foreign land with the intention of bringing great value to those who already live there. Also, the Natives offer something equally valuable — an equal exchange. This closely mirrors the Pathology of White AmericaThis is America’s ideal vision of itself.
Of course, the truth of Thanksgiving is very different. Pilgrims brought no turkeys, sweet potatoes pie, or even cranberries for Thanksgiving. They couldn’t. They were bankrupt. They had no money and were broke. However, they were fed and educated. It makes perfect sense to celebrate Thanksgiving. It is important to remember that white Americans can have much to be thankful.
However, I am still trying to discover what the indigenous people got in return for their efforts. You don’t have to bring stuffing or biscuits. These settlers brought violence and genocide. State-sponsored violence against Native Americans and other black Americans continues to be a common feature of genocide, violence and colonialism. Violent private white supremacy, which is also subsidized, is widely celebrated. From Stonechild Chiefstick to Mike Brown to Renee Davis to Breonna Taylor to Eric Garner, indigenous and black people are still being murdered by those paid to protect us.
Ahmaud Abery to Trayvon Mar, White Americans continue to kill Native Americans and Black Americans without fear of reprisal. They brought chattel slavery to Africans and Native people that still happens through the Prison industrial complex, which imprisons descendants of enslaved Africans or Natives at far disparate numbers. It is the truth of Thanksgiving.
We still wait for white Americans who can bring value to our lives — white Americans that match the Thanksgiving mythology.Justice, freedom, equality, and reparations to two-and-a-half billion acres of Native land stolen — compensations for 246 years’ worth of labor stolen — reparations to Native children raped. Stop the murder — it is still taking place. It’s not over. Restore the land. Match the mythology. Only then can we all feel equally grateful. Peace.
CROSS – My sincere thanks to Gyasi Ros.
