Another example of a journalist glorifying identity politics being caught attacking minorities.
In the media it is a common trope that Democrats are able to make the smallest demographic gains. Every election, it is certain that we will hear something about a candidate becoming the “first” individual in some tangential category to be elected. As time passes, it becomes more difficult. She is the first woman, POC-intolerant and left-handed female comptroller west the Mississippi
Conservatives falling into these two categories don’t get the hyperventilating response. Take a look at Virginia’s most recent election, in which GOP voters elected a Hispanic attorney general and a black woman for Lieutenant Governor. The press not only ignored these landmark wins, but they also insisted the results were racist – because the nearly translucent Terry MacAuliffe lost to Glenn Youngkin.
Similar results were seen in Texas’s recent primaries. The Republicans nominated several Hispanics and journalists could be heard rushing to get rid of these results. Either this was because the reality of Latin voter flight from the Democrats would have to be mentioned, or it was that all of the prior buildup of the state’s voting law, they promised, would disenfranchise minority voters. In the face of minor nominees, it is difficult to maintain whitewashing.
Joy Reid now arrives in her usual manner to provide us with her interpretation of the Texas results. Republican Mayra Flowers won easily in a 34th Congressional District special election. It is an historic Blue district with large numbers of Hispanic voters. This result is even more impressive than the one Biden won in 2020’s general election. Flores, who was born in Mexico, becomes the first Congressman to do so.
Despite all of these historical achievements – the likes of which normally have journos all a-quiver – Reid managed to overlook all of that and see the real issue. The elation-averse Joy came to this conclusion – “Victory for Mayra Flores, the QAnon-curious Republican who flipped a House seat in the Democratic stronghold of South Texas.”
This is not a common behavior. This implacable assessment is so confusing. Let’s not forget the fact that This absurd conclusion was fed to Reid.Media Matters is the only one that can do this. You will be guided down the road of indolence or embarrassment.
Qanon is an entity that continues to exist. Anyone who considers Qanon an ongoing entity exposes their ignorance and disinterest in analytical thinking. Qanon shut down its operation – such as it was – over a year ago. The New York Times spent a lot of time trying to find out who had created the website. They were a couple of nobodys Without any political connections or influence, they were not able to make any meaningful contributions. We still witness journalists trying to use this criticism today.
Flores is another matter. Coming out with StatementsShe criticized the Qanon’s thinking. The Texas paper published an account of her conversation with the conspiracy crowd. “I’ve always been against any of that. I’ve never been supportive of it.”
This was still not enough for Reid and her guest Fernand Amandi, a Florida Democrat pollster, analyst, and regular guest at the network. In one swallow, he took in the MMfA Kool Aide shoter and came to this courageous conclusion.
Joy, it’s a lot like that zombie movie, World War Z. You run enough of these zombie election denier MAGA candidates — you know — it’s tough to pick ‘em all off when they’re all coming at the same time.
But those who are still repeating the Qanon narrative in the press are not zombies. We can understand. Great, gang, you just continue with that as your messaging, and someday–maybe–you will defeat that conspiracy scourge that has not been around for some time and was operated by randos with no political juice. This will not get you anywhere, so keep your foot on the gas.
They will also overlook the fact that a Hispanic woman from Mexico won a seat within a blue district, and was supported by a Democratic Patry-fleeing Latino voter block. That kind of behavior is normally highlighted nightly– by Joy Reid herself–as racist. But, if a conservative is mentioned then the importance of race is completely negated, according to the media. They should be happy.
