MSNBC Hysteria: Racist Pro-Lifers Attacking ‘Democracy’ by Denying Women Their ‘Abortion Care’!

MSNBC has become so unhinged over state laws challenging Roe, they are actually trying to convince their audiences that the pro-life side is racist and founded on white supremacy, when it should be common knowledge that the largest abortion provider in the country was founded by a racist eugenicist white woman.

You can find more information here American Voices: Alicia Menendez Sunday, the left-wing host invited her radically biased guests to stir up fear and panic over the possibility the Supreme Court would uphold Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban and that could lead to fetal “personhood” laws and the eroding of Roe v. Wade.

“Give us a sense of what shifting control of reproductive rights to states means for abortion care,” Melissa Murray (MSNBC regular, NYU Law Professor) was her first guest.

Murray was upset that Justice Clarence Thomas’s comments would lead to the protecting of the fetus as a person under the Constitution:

Justice Clarence Thomas appeared to have expressed concerns about whether we should be treating the foetus like a human being in the oral argument. This signals that, once the matter is returned to the States, there might be more support for a personhood clause that would allow the state to recognize the fetus for constitutional purposes. Once that occurs, it doesn’t matter what happens at the state level. California does not allow abortion. Abortion can be made a criminal offense if it is found that the fetus is a person similar to the woman.

Murray later complained that “this is a court that’s very much going to be out of step” with the majority of the country. Is that true? It seems that the majority of Americans agree with the classification of the fetus a person. There are already 38 states which have fetal murder laws. There’s also the 2004 Unborn Victims of Violence Act which recognizes an unborn baby as a legal victim if hurt or killed in a violent crime against a pregnant woman.

But Menendez’s second guest, Black Lives Matter activist and MSNBC regular Brittany Packnett Cunningham really went off the deep end with her response.

After complaining that attacks on “abortion care” were attacks on “democracy,” (see transcript below,) she made the bizarre argument that the pro-life movement, the one advocating for saving black lives, was rooted in white supremacy.

Menendez took her aside to help explain.

Brittany, let us also discuss where all this came from. After Wednesday’s arguments, you tweeted, ‘the roots of the pro-life movement — and you have that in quotes — are about preserving segregation and building a white supremacist religious right.’ Tell me more,” She pleaded.

Her guest’s strange argument came from a 2014 Politico article, that claimed “segregationists” after Roe founded the pro-life movement as another way to discriminate against black people…25 years after Brown v. Board of Education and 15 years after the Civil Rights Act:

Segregationists were defeated, so when they came together to discuss how they could maintain their political power they decided to look for a new topic. Six years later, Roe was declared the law and they determined that the issue they wanted to attack would be abortion rights. They were able build a religious coalition that was largely white. This alliance was created from those who wanted to keep the South and the United States as segregated, as well. It’s impossible to separate these two priorities from a particular group.

The GOP supports strong sex education, access to contraceptives and a variety of other pro-life measures. These things reduce teenage pregnancies. They would work to decrease maternal deaths, and ensure that infant mortality is low in black mothers. They will ensure we are paid family leave and not continue to fight for it. It has never been about prolife principles. It has been all about creating, maintaining and co-escalating power.

It’s also worth noting that the alarmingly deceptive and Orwellian “abortion care” phrase was uttered five times in this segment alone. It was repeated on MSNBC’s Velshi, PolisNationPlease see the following: Cross ConnectionSaturday, Sunday and Monday are also available.

American Voices with Alicia Menendez

12/5/21

ALICIA MENENDEZ – Melissa, we need to get started. We really did set it up that way, don’t you think? This isn’t true. They won’t do it and be done. They will do it, then they will keep on going. We need to get an idea of how states are shifting control of their reproductive rights. Care for an abortion.

MELISSA MURRAY, NYU PROFESSOR, MSNBC CONTRIBUTOR: Well, Brett Kavanaugh was the justice who seemed to be most enamored of this idea of returning this to the political process and specifically putting this in the hands of the state. You mentioned that there are 25 states within the Union that have current trigger laws that could be used to criminalize abortion, in case Roe v. Wade was overturned. This means that even if Roe v. Wade is overturned, it will still be applicable to all states. It will mean that women in large parts of the country will not have access to reproductive health care. This is not the case. Justice Clarence Thomas made it clear that he was concerned that the fetus should be treated as a subject for the purposes of the constitution. That signals that there may be some further agitation to create a personhood amend that would make the fetus a subject for the purposes of the Constitution. Once that occurs, it doesn’t matter what happens at the state level. California does not allow abortion. You can make abortion illegal if the fetus, like the woman, is considered to be a person.

MENENDEZ -…How might a post-roe America negatively impact low-income people and communities of color?

BRITTANY PACKNETT CONTRIBUTOR, MSNBC CUNNINGHAM

…[T]People who are most vulnerable to being marginalized have more trouble taking time off work and traveling between states. They also struggle with having enough money to pay for the necessities of life. abortion careThey need it.

It is also important to grasp this fundamentally. This episode will discuss this. It isn’t just about attacking our individuality. It is an attack upon democracy, because democracy is fundamentally based on the notion that everyone has autonomy and agency over their bodies. This is us, the people who are able to have children, but who also have the power to make decisions about when they get them. We’re being treated as if our existence doesn’t exist, as if it didn’t matter to anyone. Right now, we are all people. It’s not possible to discuss the viability of those people who have had children. Let’s have a focussed conversation about how it will impact the marginalized. Let’s be honest, how it will affect us all. It will continue to degrade the fragile experience of democracy we have right now.

MENENDEZ and Brittany: Let’s talk about the origins of this. After Wednesday’s arguments, you tweeted, ‘the roots of the pro-life movement — and you have that in quotes — are about preserving segregation and building a white supremacist religious right.’ Tell me more.

BRITTANY PACKNETT CUNINGHAM: This is well-documented and thoroughly researched. That tweet also contained a link that took me to an article I had written in 2014. I like to share these articles every few months, but I don’t feel the need to do so every year. It is because I want everyone to see that the roots are what make the tree grow.

In essence, segregationists had lost. When they met and tried to find ways to keep their political power intact, they realized that they must look at a different issue. Six years later, Roe was declared the law and they determined that the issue they wanted to attack would be abortion rights. The new religious coalition was mostly white. This again took away the focus of those who wanted to keep the South and the nation as segregated. It’s impossible to separate these priorities from a particular group. Pro-life values would lead the GOP to support robust sex education as well as access to contraceptives, which reduce teenage pregnancy. They would work to decrease maternal deaths, and ensure that infant mortality is low in the black population. They will ensure we are paid family leave and not continue to fight for it. It has never been about prolife principles. It has been all about creating, maintaining and co-escalating power.

….

MURRAY:…[W]They took the Affordable Care Act to court, but they were unable to overturn it. We are seeing that the court is being used for anti-democratic purposes. This is only the tip of an iceberg. With voting rights, they’ve done it. The Affordable Care Act has helped them to do it. They’ve at least tried. They’re now doing it with Roe V. Wade.70% Americans support a right of abortion, even though they aren’t in agreement with its scope or substance. This court is going to fall out of line with the majority.
