What’s the best way to make a point? As wisdom has doled, “Say it in a song.”
That’s the advice MSNBC guest Roben Farzad followed Wednesday while discussing gas prices with host Katy Tur.
Biden suggested that a gas-tax vacation be taken, even though he was busy earlier.
RedState senior editor Joe Cunningham has covered the story as follows:
Joe Biden officially stated his intention to request a three month gas tax holiday from Congress. The proposal is being seen as an opportunity for Americans to lessen the financial burden that high gasoline prices have on their families, particularly those of middle and lower classes.
As opponents point out, the issue is actually the negative effect such a holiday could have.
Nick Arama (my colleague) pointed this out earlier in the day. A gas tax holiday is expected to have one of two major impacts: increase demand and decrease supply. Prices rise when there is more demand and less supply. How much would drivers save the 18 cents per gallons? The decreasing supply has led to a decrease in the price.
Apart from blaming Big Oil the President also blamed Putin and Republicans.
“[F]Or all of the Republicans who have criticized me in Congress today about high gasoline prices in America. Are you now saying we were wrong in supporting Ukraine? Do you think we are wrong for standing up to Putin? Are you saying that we would rather have lower gas prices in America and Putin’s iron fist in Europe?”

Mike Memoli, a journalist for MSNBC, endorsed the oil company shaming:
“You heard him talk about the oil companies, who are making record profits at a time that Americans are increasingly concerned about record costs.”
Roben Farzad (a NPR contributor and radio host) then offered something downright toe-tappable. He burst into an original Backstreet Boys song amid the gas explosion.
“Who’s to blame for the cost of oil being so high right now?” he asked. “Is it because of President Biden’s policies, or are there other effects going on?”
Roben teed his ball, pulled back his club…
“Did you see this back-and-forth between Biden and the CEO of Chevron? And kind of his emotions, he was so touchy-feely, and I could see if the oil execs had kind of more chill to them, they’d be like, ‘Quit playing games with my heart.’”
But he didn’t merely speak the words. Roben was his best boy band. And honestly, he wasn’t bad.
Even the man did all of them.

It truly was game-changing.
Afterward, the interview couldn’t proceed normally. Katy admitted, “I mean, I like you’re singing. I was a little bit thrown by the singing, even though I know you warned me that you were going to do it…”
For anyone able to focus on what followed, Katy posed that Americans won’t feel bad for oil companies when electric cars “wipe out [their] business model.”
“If you really want to get into it,” she offered, “and talk about why we are so dependent on oil, you could make a strong argument that Exxon is the reason because they changed their corporate model.”
Roben was in sync: “But ask Exxon, Exxon is owned by its shareholders…and they’re probably Looking for an increase in dividend, better stock visibility, or buybacks? And no one wants to hear that, and it’s unpatriotic. But it’s not a state-owned oil company.”
To return to the singing: I believe that all MSNBC guest should belt their convictions from now on. After all, there’ve been epic ideas; I can only imagine they’d make for sensational songs…
