Mother Handcuffed by Police in Uvalde Speaks out, Drops a Barn Burner Accusation – Opinion

Details of the incompetent police response to the Uvalde school shooting began to leak out in the days following. RedState was responsible for the delaying entry into school. The shooter’s death came after Border Patrol agents disobeyed the orders. It was also shocking to learn that the parents of those who begged for law enforcement’s entry into the school were subdued. In some instances, they were handcuffed or tased.

One story of a woman who broke free to go in and rescue her kids herself made news, and now she’s speaking out. Angeli Gómez has also made a shocking accusation against police.

Gomez tells of a frightening scene in which police put Gomez in handcuffs as she asked to enter the school to pick up her children. After being let out, she ran and entered the school. After finding her children in the chaos, she fled.

The mother also claims that the shots were still being fired while she was inside, contradicting police’s claim that the victims died within a matter of minutes. That’s been used as an excuse for why they didn’t storm the classroom immediately.

Gomez’s story didn’t end there, though, and this is where things get really infuriating. According to her, someone at the police called Gomez after the shooting and threatened her with obstruction charges if she talked to the media about the failures of the justice system.

The story continues to get worse. I don’t know what would possess any law enforcement official or prosecutor to call up and threaten a mother who was just trying to save her kids and tell the truth about what happened that day. It is clear that anyone who did this should be fired. There is no excuse for that kind of abuse of power–never mind that it was done in an attempt to cover up police malfeasance and cowardice.

Hopefully, Gomez is able to pinpoint who she spoke with because this can’t be allowed to slide. Someone’s head needs to roll over the situation. The failures of that day require severe discipline from all police officers, including those who were in command. Because they refused to act, children were killed who would have otherwise been alive. Instead of handcuffing and threatening parents, they should have been storming that school to the last man, if that’s what it took.

It is becoming more apparent that obsessing about guns will not stop the killings. Law enforcement that does their job will help to stop or reduce the harm.
