Military Plane Carrying ‘Nuclear Material’ Crashes in CA Near Mexican Border – Opinion

A military aircraft purportedly carrying “nuclear material” has crashed in Imperial County, CA, about 30 miles north of the Mexican border. Officials think that five of the passengers were on board, with officials claiming they were all killed.

At 1:32 Pacific time, Naval Air Base El Centro announced that they’d “just received reports of a downed aircraft in the vicinity of Coachella Canal Road and the 78 [California Highway 78].”

Base officials added the following information to their Facebook posts:

Installation Federal Fire and Imperial County Fire Department will respond. We do not have any additional information at the moment. As facts become verified and available, information will be released on the base’s Facebook page. We appreciate your patience as we work through this crisis.

This area lies east of El Centro and is immediately adjacent to North Algodones Dunes Wilderness. It also includes the Imperial Sand Hills National Natural Landmark.

Imperial County officials believe all five victims of a crash near Highway 78 military aircraft are now dead. It’s unknown what caused the aircraft to crash at this time. Further details on the presence of nuclear material are unknown. This scene is now in the hands of the military.
