As the Virginia governor’s race wound down last night, the night before the election, Terry McAuliffe demonstrated for a final time why he doesn’t deserve to be elected to office.
He was a creepy Democratic agent who told the last lie, without any conscience. In his attempt to win the election, he threw everything at the wall. The Youngkin-Trump incident was fabricated by him and he lied to his audiences.

“Guess how Glenn Youngkin is finishing his campaign?” McAuliffe told a modest crowd outside a Fairfax brewery Monday night at his final rally. “He is doing an event with Donald Trump here in Virginia.”
It was an untrue. Trump wasn’t in Virginia and he never campaigned with Youngkin, though he did make the case for the GOP candidate — “fantastic guy!” — during a brief “tele-rally.”
Now, obviously, that’s a lie. It’s an easily provable lie so it’s also a very stupid lie. But McAuliffe is so desperate, he’s just saying anything at this point that he thinks might hurt Youngkin, not caring even if he’s caught lying. It’s not the best look. Not to mention that bringing in Trump isn’t the negative he thinks it is.
We reported that Glenn Youngkin, who has many parents and supporters, is still on the right track. McAuliffe is not known for his large support base, Youngkin, on the other hand, has a lot of people out, and they are convinced they will win. Even Politico recognized it.
Thirty miles away, at the Loudoun County Fairgrounds, a crowd several times the size of McAuliffe’s was waiting for Youngkin to take the stage. This was a clue as to why McAuliffe wanted to create the fake Trump event. While McAuliffe has boundless energy — “Sleep when you’re dead!” he likes to say — his Monday audiences in Richmond and Fairfax, where we caught up with him, were modest and listless.
Youngkin’s were large and rollicking, with many of the trappings of a MAGA rally — a similar dad rock playlist, hats and flags and T-shirts paying homage to the former president — but, to the great disappointment of Democrats, not Trump himself.
McAuliffe tends to be negative and divisive and even makes remarks about white teachers. Youngkin, however, cares about issues like taxes and the economy. His final wrap-up was something refreshing from a politician and probably a reflection that he isn’t really a politician — like swamp creature McAuliffe. The emphasis was on gratitude, humility, service, and thanking people.
“I am a 15-year-old boy who washed dishes at the beach and took out trash when it was washed up. I want to fill an office once held by Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry.
She says, “I would like to thank you all for your consideration hiring me.” @GlennYoungkin pic.twitter.com/rX933H6sDQ

It would be great if more people thought this way and realized that it is all about serving the community, not just preserving power. The polls show a lot of positive momentum to Youngkin, but no doubt it’s going to be tight.
Let’s hope that sanity prevails and this really is a bellwether for sanity throughout government.
