Former Smollett Lawyer Hints He Has Dirt on ‘Lame Ass’ CNN After Being Fired for Link to Avenatti

“God forbid that I start telling some of the stories for how I’ve covered for that lame-ass organization.”

Mark Geragos, attorney for Jussie Smollett, railed against his former employer CNN in a Tuesday interview on “The Adam Carolla Show.”

Geragos is known for representing high-profile celebrity clients, such as Colin Kaepernick and Smollett. Smollett has been embroiled in controversy this week after charges against the alleged hate-crime hoaxer were dropped by the Cook County State’s Attorney office.

CNN announced Tuesday they were cutting ties with Geragos, a longtime legal contributor to the network, after reports linked him to Michael Avenatti’s Nike extortion plot.

Geragos appeared to be outraged by CNN’s decision to fire him, insinuating to podcast host Adam Carolla that he had dirt on President Donald Trump’s least favorite network.

“God forbid that I start telling some of the stories for how I’ve covered for that lame-ass organization,” Geragos said.

He was particularly perturbed the speed with which the network severed its relationship to him.

“They ought to change their name to the ‘Cut and Run Network,” Geragos said. “I’ve been texted by all of their anchors who are as outraged as I am that after 20 years, a press conference is enough to have them immediately want to disassociate themselves.”

Avenatti, Trump nemesis and limelight-loving former attorney to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, is being charged with wire and bank fraud for allegedly attempting to extort $20 million from Nike, CNBC reported Monday.

According to CBS News reporter Steven Portnoy, federal prosecutors allege Avenatti threatened to expose damaging information about Nike unless they agreed to pay him and his client millions.

CNN’s Brooke Baldwin revealed on-air Tuesday that Geragos is accused of being Avenatti’s co-conspirator.

The network has apparently scrubbed its website of any mentions to Geragos – a link to Geragos’ profile on CNN’s site redirects to a general page that does not include the lawyer.

“Got an update for you on the breaking news we brought you at the top of the show. CNN has learned that attorney Mark Geragos — he’s the unnamed co-conspirator in the criminal complaint against Michael Avenatti,” Baldwin revealed to viewers.

Meanwhile, CNN’s ratings have suffered in the wake of the Mueller report’s findings clearing Trump. The network found itself in last place Wednesday night with only 904,000 average prime-time viewers to Fox News’ 3,685,000, Fox News reported.

“Yesterday, CNN didn’t even average more than 540,000 viewers as a 40-year-old network with a big brand name and a crazy news cycle,” media reporter Joe Concha said during a Wednesday interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. “You’re talking about [Jussie] Smollett getting released, [Michael] Avenatti getting arrested, the Mueller report — how anybody isn’t rising in ratings in this particular week when it’s just been nuts … that’s almost impossible to do unless your viewers don’t trust you anymore based on all the speculation you did recklessly and randomly over the past two years.”
