CNN’s Brian Stelter decided not to start the first episode of so-called “Trustworthy SourcesThe “‘” of 2022 ends on a high note. Instead, Stelter continued to rehash the same tired ad hominem attacks he leveled all throughout 2021 by accusing his political opponents of “moving toward fascism”.
You can be confidently liberal Reliable sourcesDavid Frum (Atlantic senior editor) joined Stelter to discuss his bizarre July 2021 opinion piece declaring Trumpism fascism. Stelter did as usual and asked Frum one of his leading questions to find the right answer.
Around halfway through 2018, you said that Trumpism was moving toward fascism as Trump supporters and opponents tried to justify January 6. Is that still your feeling, a year later?
Frum replied to the first definition of words after he had tee’d up his softball. “fascism is a popular movement that justifies violence in the name of some kind of overthrow of outdated institutions and to create some kind of national regeneration.”Then he launched into an angry tirade, accusing Republican voters that they are not horrified. “violence anymore, they’re increasingly accepting it.”
Stelter replied in typical arrogance by claiming “there are conversations about that here on CNN and on MSNBC” The alleged fascism of the Republican Party after the January 6th riots. He concluded with another important question “do you think the rest of the national news media is taking the aftermath of January 6th seriously enough? Do you think there is enough coverage?
Frum replied by whining that the coverage was difficult to keep up with, and argued it has been that way since 2015, seemingly alluding to Trump’s first run for President. “There is a scandal and then another scandal and then another scandal. There’s an outrage and then another outrage and then another outrage,” he said.
He acts like this wasn’t the media’s fault by creating the rapid fire panicked coverage during the Trump years.
Continuing his whining further, Frum added:
We kept saying through the Trump Presidency, the mantra–at least in the beginning of it, the mantra that many people used was the phrase, this is not normal. It isn’t normal. We have to admit that this is normal. This is the new normal.
Frum continued on by asking if this would be the future of American politics in 2022 and 2024, and if not, what can be done to “keep the country true to its democratic and liberal traditions?”

11.32:30 amBRIAN STELTER – You said about half way through 2017 that Trump supporters and people trying to justify January 6th are moving towards fascism. Is that still your feeling, a year later?
DAVIDFRUM: Uh, Trump. What exactly is fascism and what are we referring to when we refer to it? To me, fascism seems to be a populist movement that supports violence to overthrow outdated institutions or to promote national renewal. Well, that’s what you hear more and more from the people who are minimizing this. There is an accepta— they’re not horrified by the violence anymore, they’re increasingly accepting it. They accept that the United States’ institutions are so flawed that they must be removed and rebuilt in a radical new manner with violence as the main tool.
STELTER Are there sufficient focused reports on the issue?
FRUM: It’s hard to keep up. This has been the case since 2015. It seems that there are always more scandals than scandals. There’s an outrage and then another outrage and then another outrage. We kept saying through the Trump Presidency, the mantra–at least in the beginning of it, the mantra that many people used was the phrase, this is not normal. It isn’t normal. We have to admit that this is normal. This is the new normal. This is now normal. The central question is: What will your American political future look like in 2022 or 2024? If you refuse to accept it, how can you keep America true to its liberal and democratic traditions?
