A Washington Examiner report claims that MSNBC had been looking for Rachel Maddow to be replaced by Keith Olbermann (ex-MSNBC host), until Maddow objected to this move.
Olbermann revealed that Jeff Shell, CEO NBCUniversal News Group chairman, was in discussions with Olbermann over a possible return to the network. Source Material, a newsletter for journalists, is Olbermann’s source material. Daily Beast. However, these discussions ended with Maddow expressing opposition to the idea,” Elizabeth Faddis from the Washington Examiner reported.
Olbermann lashed out at Maddow’s production consultant and former MSNBC president Phil Griffin in a statement after the news broke: I offered her to let me ‘produce the show’ with her production company. Would give her proxy control and a f***ton of money, but she and Phil Griffin refused. I don’t expect to keep negotiations going with these management successors. The management is worse than being asleep at the switch.
Maddow declared in January she would take a break form her weeknight program to devote herself to other projects such as filming “Bag Man”, a movie that is based on her book, podcast and interview on Spiro Agnew (ex-Vice President). Even though she recently signed a contract worth $30 million with MSNBC for her show to remain on the air, this is despite having just received a new deal. Rachel Maddow Show.
It is odd that Olbermann was being even considered, considering that he was banned from MSNBC after making political contributions in violation of network rules during the 2010 midterm election. In January 2011, he left the network. Olbermann, who made offensive comments on Twitter about Penn State students in 2015, was also fired by ESPN.
We shouldn’t be shocked, MSNBC seems desperate to hire new talent. According to reports, they are looking for Jen Psaki White House Press Secretary.
