Let’s Stop Saying That Progressives are ‘Out of Touch’ – Opinion

A common refrain from the right is the assertion that Democrats are now out of touch and have moved further to the left in recent years. It’s a popular maxim, one that I have also repeated. But I have come to realize this isn’t as true as we think. It is actually more alarming.

We’re old enough to remember all the fuss over Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, right? Democrats and their closest friends in the activist media raised a lot of noise in protest at the suggestion that teachers might not be allowed instruct children as young as seven years old on gender identity, and sexuality. They even deceptively called it the “Don’t Say Gay bill.”

But polling showed that the American public wasn’t buying it. In fact, 52 percent of Florida Democratic Primary voters supported it in at least one poll. Another study showed that people favor the law. The progressive left continued to fight, with Disney’s help.

Leftists exploited the murder of George Floyd to push for silly initiatives like “Defund the Police” under the guise that it would help to safeguard black lives. In order to reduce the number of police officers in cities, they bullied them. Even further, woke district attorneys like San Francisco’s Chesa Boudin were hard at work protecting criminals engaging in violent acts. These approaches were, evidently, far less secure and at least partially responsible for skyrocketing crimes rates. San Francisco’s voters were so fed up they voted to give Boudin the boot in California’s primary elections earlier this week.

What’s even more egregious about this is that rising crime rates, combined with fewer police officers, disproportionately harmed black communities. African Americans represented the lion’s share of victims of violent crimes, including homicide. Yet, progressives continued to attack police despite polling showing that 81 percent of black Americans wanted the same amount of police activity or even more.

Last but not the least, President Joe Biden (and progressives) are continuing to push for a shift toward green energy amid skyrocketing oil prices. The former president Donald Trump had hoped to make America more energy independent, but Biden reversed that course shortly after becoming President. Because of the massive inflation, Americans now pay almost twice as much at the pumps and are taxing themselves to buy groceries. Biden and the rest of his Democratic comrades in Congress are refusing to let more oil and drilling be done in America.

This progressive approach to solving America’s energy crisis is completely against what the majority of Americans desire. A Heartland/Rasmussen poll conducted last month revealed that 82 percent of likely voters are “very” or “somewhat concerned” about rising energy and gas prices under this administration. Additionally, 60 percent of respondents said they would favor legislation that would “dramatically increase American energy production.”

As it turns out, most Americans can’t just go out and buy a Tesla as Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), and other leftists have suggested.

These, and a mile-long list of examples, would lead any reasonable person to conclude that progressives just don’t understand average, everyday citizens. They don’t bother having conversations with regular folks to understand what they believe about the problems they are facing.

But I’ve come to realize that this assumption is both naive, inaccurate, and even dangerous.

They are in touch with American citizens. They know what people want. They do not ignore our viewpoints as normal citizens.

They understand what we believe. They just don’t care.

They don’t give a rodent’s derriere how we feel about the direction of the country.

The truth is that they know this, so we can just ignore them and follow their lead. They will keep pushing progressive ideas regarding race, gender, sexuality and public schools in K-12. Further, progressives will try to restrict educational options by opposing school choice. You and your grandchildren are the children of the state. They do not belong to their parents. It is therefore perfectly acceptable to support youths in transitioning to different genders.

Democrats have backed off of the ridiculous “defund the police” movement. They have not given up, however. The Woke district attorneys continue to ensure that criminals receive lenient treatment. While they are still trying to restrict gun ownership, the Woke district attorneys continue soft-on crime policies.

When it comes to gas prices, it’s the same story. It doesn’t matter if you need some gas relief, you should figure out how you can get one. The elites don’t have to worry either way because these inflated prices are not harming the elites as they are for plebes like you and I.

Progressives have a lot to offer. They do not seem ignorant. These would-be dictators are elite would-be tyrants who want more power. These individuals believe they have the right to decide what’s best for the poor. The Left believes they have more knowledge than us. We are faced with this reality.

I’ll note that this does not apply to moderate liberals or even many average people with progressive views. However, it applies to Marxist intellectualsia as well as their support staff in activist media. So, let’s stop giving them the benefit of the doubt. They do not deserve our empathy or good-will conversations. It is impossible to reason with them. We must defeat them.
