King Randall’s ‘X School For Boys’ Offers Life Skills and Confidence To Help Empower Young Black Men – Opinion

It is important to get to know him.

We are all talking about theories and generalities while others think of ways to win. King Randallis to put his feet on the road and do something.

And he’s only 22 years old.

Randall is the founder, and the chief of the X School For Boys. This non-profit mentoring program is based out of Albany GA. King created the program because he saw too many young men with little to do, and no place they could go for meaning and purpose. He didn’t see anyone around him providing guidance, so he rolled up his sleeves and started X School For Boys.

Boys aged 11-17 years old can visit X School after school for practical skills and academic support. They also learn how to communicate with their families and communities as respectful, responsible men who will be leaders. Randall believes he was blessed to have had a stepfather who showed him everything, from fishing and hunting to music making to how to fix cars. He wants to pass those skills on to young men who haven’t had the same fatherly guidance in their lives.

Randall shared with me his confidence in helping out their parents by fixing up the car, changing oil and other such practical tasks at CPAC.

“A lot of boys who didn’t have a father are sometimes timid and lack confidence, and a lot of them who may not be academically inclined or athletically inclined…they just feel like they’re worthless. So giving them a skilled trade to learn, teaching them how to change some oil or change some brakes on the car or how to grow their own food, a lot of them start literally expanding…and they begin to be confident because when you can say, ‘Hey mom, I changed the brakes on the car!’ or ‘Hey Dad, I changed the brakes” they begin to feel better about themselves. I may not be able to throw a ball or I may not make the best grades in school but I can go fix something, I can grow my own food, I can go fix a house…these things begin to develop confidence.”

Randall is able to raise enough funds to purchase 40 acres of land near Albany. He plans to make it a farm so that he can continue expanding his business. His goal is to bring as many boys into the program as possible. He’s currently working on opening The X School For Boys to be an academy for prep school.
