If you’re like me, you have probably noticed that the vast majority of those in the anti-gun crowd know very little about that which they seek to regulate. The majority of anti-gun sentiment from the left stems from fear and ignorance.
Joy Reid (MSNBC Media Activist) took to Twitter Tuesday afternoon to comment on the shooting at Oxford High School, Michigan. She used the tragedy, like her leftist colleagues, to promote the anti-gun agenda. However, in so doing, she showed a remarkable, but not surprising, level of ignorance about firearms and “gun culture.” In a thread, she tweeted:
Don’t know who needs to hear this but a firearm is a very serious thing. It’s not a toy. It’s not a pick-me-up you give a troubled kid. It’s not a fun Black Friday treat. It’s a dangerous piece of equipment designed to do one thing and one thing only: to kill living things dead.

It’s also not a cool Zoom background for a congressional hearing or a thing to flaunt at Starbucks just because you can. It is making our country less safe due to the strange fetishization of guns and gamification. For some, guns are a necessary evil. They’re never jewelry.

This is one the Sig Sauer model. If it looks like a Glock that’s because it IS like a Glock. It’s similar in style and function. It is not something that you should give to children.

Let’s start with the last tweet first, because it is probably the silliest thing Reid could have said. It is like comparing a Ford F-150 to a Toyota Tacoma by pointing out the similarities between what appears to be a Sig Sauer P320 and a Glock. Although they have some differences, both are trucks.
The same is true for Sig and Glock – they are not the exact same gun, but they are both pistols. This is irrelevant for the discussion on shooting and guns generally. Reid seems to believe that making such statements makes it appear they are knowledgeable on the topic.
It is worth pointing out that to Reid’s audience, which is mostly leftists, this might actually make it appear as if she knows what she’s talking about because the majority of those folks know as much about guns as Michael Moore does about dieting. Reid looks silly to people who at least have some knowledge about firearms.
Reid’s second tweet seems to target Rep. Lauren Boebert (R.CO), who was attacked after she attended a Zoom meeting while carrying a firearm in her back. Reid argues, without evidence, that this supposed “fetishization and gamification of guns” is somehow dangerous. Although Reid seems to think she is trying to persuade her audience that guns are threatening innocent Americans, the argument fails when it becomes clear that advocates for gun rights don’t just like to flash their guns around randomly.
Boebert clearly had her weapon in the background to give a public statement. There is no evidence that the lawmaker is a danger to anyone — despite what Reid’s ilk wants us to believe.
Lastly, Reid’s statement that a gun is “not a toy” is indicative of the condescending approach these elitist fools take towards those with differing political views. This is quite funny, given the fact that Reid’s audience has forgotten more about guns then Reid can ever imagine.
Most gun owners know firearms aren’t toys, and don’t treat them like such. We don’t run around brandishing our firearms or wearing them like “jewelry,” as Reid pretends. A significant percentage of concealed carry holders conceal the fact that they do not wish people to find out we have guns. This is basic knowledge in gun culture, which is why it is not surprising Reid’s ilk doesn’t know this.
In essence, the activist for media is opposing something that isn’t common. Parents of the Oxford High School gunman seemed irresponsible when it came to gun ownership. Reid intends to make these parents the villains of pro-gun supporters by painting them as insane lunatics who keep loaded guns out for their children to take for evil purposes.
I think most people have enough common sense not to fall for Reid’s braindead comments. Her arguments won’t work for those ignorant or gullible about firearms. However, with gun control support dropping, it’s clear that firearm education is changing many minds. That is why progressives are losing the messaging battle. With people like Reid peddling obvious lies, it won’t be a surprise when the majority of Americans oppose stricter gun control measures even when mass shootings occur.
