It is almost one year since Joe Biden assumed office. He was inaugurated one year ago. One year ago he assumed control of the largest economic crisis in human history. One year ago he took control of the greatest pandemic in human history. One year has passed since the youngest president and first black and female vice president were elected to office.
America promised normalcy and a new beginning. It was the end of mean tweets, and there was no division. All of our lives would be normal again.
One year later, we find ourselves in something far from normal. The Democrats have increased division to the point that even their own party can’t agree on major policies. Trump’s mean tweets are long gone. Instead, there is divisive, cheap sniping on all sides. Republicans have been excluded from many aspects of the process, and even if they had their way with the progressive fringes, Republicans would be unable to sit at the table on bills such as the bipartisan infrastructure bill.
But it’s not just the Republicans they don’t want to work with. Parents have been labeled terrorists by the administration if they question public education. They have labeled those who defeated them in Virginia “racists” and have delegitimized whatever grievances voters had.
The economy certainly hasn’t gotten better. While wage growth is being monitored by the Administration, inflation has outpaced it. Although jobs are now available, supply chain and resource issues are hindering businesses’ ability to make ends meet.
The number of COVID-19-related cases is on the rise, especially in Northern States/Democratic strongholds. The Biden administration tried to take credit for the development of the vaccines that have inarguably slowed the spread and death rates of the disease, but they also have gone out and shamed anyone who hasn’t gotten the vaccine, and even declared war on their rights by pushing an unconstitutional OSHA regulation.
The historic and oldest president ever elected. He rarely takes questions, isn’t allowed off-script, and continues to make embarrassing gaffes in his public statements. He is apparently also involved in an behind-the scenes war with his office and the historical first female black vice president. The two offices are so incompatible that it is necessary for them to appear support each other whenever rumors about their differences surface.
President and Vice-President are both in an uphill battle to disapprove voters. Neither seems to have any ground in this regard. The spiralling continues. Naturally, though, you’re a sexist and a racist if you don’t support Kamala Harris, and you support fascism if you don’t support Joe Biden.
Historic.
What’s really historic is what’s happening across the country right now. Washington Post/ABC polling shows Republicans to be a 10-point favorite for 2022. This has never happened before in the history their poll. Virginia, a blue state, lost its legislature and all of its statewide offices earlier in the month to Republicans. Voters feel the economic crunch and are not patient with the current political game played by Democrats.
Not only is there deep division between parties, but also between ruling class members and voters. This is what many Americans have done to their social media accounts, both the media and political classes. These people have become accustomed to the idea that their enemies are not only their adversaries, but actually enemy who is guilty of crimes against democracy. They need to get out of society. That isn’t healthy psychological behavior, and things will continue to spiral out of control because we can’t start treating each other, and the political process, in a healthier way.
Yet, it is important to remember that social media doesn’t represent our society. This means the issues are magnified for those who spend lots of time there and can be invisible to others who do not use them as much. This is why a lot the division we see in society can be seen as one-sided. A majority of the voters out there really don’t hate the other side, or the ruling class, or the media as much as it is the other way around. They are tired of Washington’s stupidity and turn their backs on it.
With all the negatives that are going around, and many of them being self-inflicted no matter what administration may say, the party at power will win. Biden’s first term will see the total collapse of his party. This is the real historical moment. There could be record gains in Congress. The Senate could flip once again. What will really be remarkable is the level of unpreparedness that the Democratic Party or the Biden administration will have to deal with this amount of backlash.
You (the voters) will naturally continue to be blamed because you don’t have their vision or their passion. People who support white supremacy will label you. And you will continue to reject that party and its rhetoric because they can’t help themselves and they’ll continue to push you away rather than accept any blame.
