The fact that I had to answer the above question in the headline shows why Michigan is currently a blue state. It will continue to be so for the near future. However, it is not Kevin Rinke’s fault that Michigan is currently a blue state — though he is most likely helping keep it one at the Governor’s mansion in 2022.
I stated earlier in the year that Whitmer had achieved the nearly impossible on WAAM Radio Ann Arbor Michigan. The eight years of Granholm administration were a blur in comparison to how they could wreck an entire state in half the time. That moment, I pledged that I would back the GOP nominee (whoever it was) against Gretch in 2022. I’m one of those pesky independents that both R’s and D’s need to get a win and have zero issues of skipping a line on a ballot if I think all options suck, so this was a big step for me.
It is a monument in truth.
Up until these past few weeks, the Republican race to face Whitmer for the nomination has been quite docile. Everything was relatively low-key, with the exception of two candidates who were disqualified for petition signature fraud.
That quiet, of course, had to come to an end as we wind down this campaign and the Rinke camp decided it was time to go off the rails by calling a family that has supported a plethora of conservative causes over the past couple of decades “America’s betrayers.”
It is asinine.
The commercial shows a person who is not only an opponent in the GOP’s nod against the truly awful Governor of Texas, but also one family who supports policies that benefit the citizens living here.
Tudor Dixon is funded by the very same people who illegally removed President Trump from office.

These people owe her a debt. Tudor Dixon’s campaign is bankrolled by Never Trumpers, Liberal Billionaires, and anti-MAGA turncoat Betsy DeVos. DeVos had a plan to remove Donald Trump from power on January 6.
(Interviewer) “In your book, you mentioned some of the discussion you had invoking the 25th amendment.”
(Betsy DeVos) “Well, I wanted to understand what the law with the amendment said.”
Dixon is bankrolled by liberals, Never Trumpers, and America’s betrayers. We just can’t trust Tudor Dixon
Liberals, Never Trumpers, and America’s betrayers.
Oh, my.
You can complete the absurdity of this commercial by having Rinke come out wearing ruby red slippers. Then click the shoes together so that you hopefully get back to reality, and not just the political idiocy Oz.
So being I’m not a newbie at politics, I fully understand that when it comes down to crunch time, candidates who are polling in the one, two, and three positions are going to start getting rough with each other. Rinke did this because Dixon is leading Dixon by four points according to the most recent polling. From Detroit Deadline:
According to the Detroit News, Tudor Nixon is the GOP’s gubernatorial hopeful, with just four percentage points lead over Kevin Rinke.
The lead falls within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
This poll was taken between July 13-15 and includes 500 likely Republican primary voters. It was commissioned and carried out by Detroit News and WDIV and by Glengariff Group in Lansing.
This also indicated that Ryan Kelley (gubernatorial candidate) and Garrett Soldano (gubernatorial candidate) were behind Rinke. However, 38 percent of the likely GOP voters said they hadn’t made up their minds.
Yet the problem I have — and quite frankly anyone who gives a damn about changing Michigan from a blue state to a red state should also have — is that Rinke wants to smear his opponent on faulty reasoning and by dragging a family that has done more for “conservative” causes than he could ever dream of doing.
Rational people can disagree on policy or actions and I do disagree with Betsy DeVos about her decision to resign two weeks before Trump’s term ended in January of 2021 for the reasons she stated.
According to the Jan 6 Commission, Trump did not encourage Hot Heads from going to the Capitol to overthrow America’s government. It is ridiculous that Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney think the man who dressed as one of Village People would be able to install himself Speaker of the House. This is a cute tale, but unfortunately it wasn’t going to be true no matter how many times they tried scaring people at prime time hearings.
Discrediting the Devos and the history they have supported causes Kevin Rinke, and the rest of the GOP nominees for the nomination support is pure lunacy. This sounds just like Whitmer and her Public Relations staff would have come up with in order to piss off Trump loyalists and fracture the base prior to November.
So just to drive the point home here, I could bury this story in links to leftist rags that have verbally lit the DeVoss family on fire for their support of causes that are “right-wing” in nature. They have supported charter schools throughout the state and helped to fund Right to Life Michigan. Here’s a little bit about the lockdown protests of two years ago.
Why the DeVos family’s backing of the Michigan protests is no surprise.
Being able to meet both Dick and Betsy Devos as part of his 2006 Governor’s campaign, it was a pleasure to get to know them. Never trust Trumpers, or Liberal BillionairesSuch as the one in that ad. It is not right to smear people as Republican and claim they are. Instead, you should be dealing with them straight.
It is possible to be kind to your adversaries and not create a script that Team Whitmer will use in the event Tudor Dixon wins. Garret Soldano asked Dixon where she was in relation to the 2020 protests. She responded and they had an interesting exchange that did not devolve into… YOU’RE BACKED BY PEOPLE WHO I WISH WERE BACKING ME.
A reminder that Dixon’s Mar-a-Lago fundraising event was attended by Trump may be an indication that Trump 45 doesn’t believe Rinke is right in calling any person who trails him in polls a Never Trumper. Michigan Candidate to Governor holds a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago Florida. Trump also mentioned her at a rally he held here after the Mar-a-Lago event, so maybe Rinke knows something “The Donald” doesn’t know.
Or maybe it’s not.
I’m actually interested in slowly turning Michigan red which will take decades to do. In my commitment to the Michigan GOP last spring, and to their candidate, was that I wanted to see a candidate capable of taking on Governor Gretch, and to start this long and difficult process.
If this scorched earth policy that Kevin Rinke has engaged in to win a nomination is an indication of how he would govern, I’m gonna have to pass on my earlier pledge. I have seen the more-money-than-brains act down in Texas with Beto O’Rouke and it gives me heartburn much worse than the fine Tex-Mex food in the Lone Star State.
Michigan doesn’t need this type of absurdity, I can assure you.
In the final days of the campaign, I expect the other candidates to speak up and condemn this Whitmer attack material. It is a blatant attempt by an individual to harm an opponent. Michigan is a blue state, but every once in awhile it turms purple. Calling everyone a Never Trumper and Liberal Billionaire just to get points is George Soros-esque.
Whitmer Inc. is a major reason Michigan has suffered for four years. This must change. Kevin Rinke is shameful if he thinks that trashing those who are showing their conservative values through action is the best move. He is not the best Michigan GOP candidate, and that’s bad news.
Prepare for politics as usual in the State of Michigan — and that will not end well.
