Is Ignoring the Other Side a Winning Strategy for the Left?

The Daily Wire presented a groundbreaking new documentary with Matt Walsh as its star this week. Titled “What Is A Woman?”, the documentary investigates radical gender theory and its peculiar hold on the elites in our society — and how the insane proposition that men can become women and vice versa has become so well-accepted that even normal Americans now live in fear of questioning it. The Daily Wire’s greatest success story has seen hundreds of thousands of Americans subscribe to the film. Rotten Tomatoes hasn’t published any traditional reviews of the film by its review aggregator, television and film.

Because the movie doesn’t exist according to entertainment media and legacy. Reviewers saw the movie when the Daily Wire sent invitations for them to see it. They were aware that many of the reviewers would be Left-leaning and will undoubtedly hate the film. “Hard pass,” wrote one. “Unsubscribe,” wrote another. “Lose my email. Forget my name.” A third reviewer, this one a member of GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, wrote, “Hard f—ing pass. Never email me again! Never email me again!” Thus, the current Rotten Tomatoes audience score for the film is 96%; the reviewer score remains empty.

It is the Left’s belief about transgender ideologies more generally that reviewers are willing to pretend there’s no debate over gender and sexuality. One gender reassignment surgeon — a medical doctor who performs body-mutilating surgeries — told Walsh that nobody believed in traditional ideas about biological sex anymore; only “dinosaurs” would believe such antiquated notions.

These denials of even the existence of countervailing arguments are a hallmark of Leftist ideology. You can pretend that opposition to strange ideas does not exist and mainstream them. Thus, “everyone believes” that climate change is not merely a byproduct of human activity, but that it threatens life on earth; to deny the latter proposition is tantamount to Holocaust denial. “Everyone believes” that America is systemically racist; to do otherwise is to mark yourself as a bigot. 

What if everyone doesn’t agree with these propositions? Imagine if millions — or even most Americans — believe exactly the opposite. It is possible to reinforce the denial by censorship. Ex-Senior Advisor to Barack Obama Dan Pfeiffer spoke on MSNBC, declaring that conservative viewpoints are a menace to democracy. “Right wing content,” Pfeiffer observed, “dwarfs progressive content (on Facebook). This makes mainstream media content seem small, and that should actually be what scares people the most. Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire is more popular than any other news site, with more engagement. The New York Times or CNN… That is a problem for democracy.”

Democracy simply refers to the Approved View, as you can see. The Approved View that is not popular is a problem with propaganda. This is a problem in democracy. It is necessary to ban this propaganda so that the Approved Vision has a monopoly. If the echo chamber doesn’t have enough power to drown out all outsiders it can be silenced and declared democracy safe.

It won’t. That’s the problem. Democrats are now ensconced in a progressive world, where the most controversial propositions seem utterly noncontroversial. The other side does not exist in this universe. The Left is not happy about this. They vote. The Democratic Party’s ostrich strategy and media apparatchiks are likely to reap devastating electoral results in November 2022.
