Inconvenient Truth: CNN Admits Majority Doesn’t Want More Gun Control!

You can’t tune into Morning Joe nowadays without hearing it trumpeted that somewhere between 85-90% of Americans want more gun-control laws.

CNN’s Wednesday Morning Special is available. Day of the New This was an unsettling truth. Check out how co-host John Berman framed matters. You might normally expect him to present things from a strongly pro-gun control perspective, but this is how he teed up Enten:

You hear that 90% Americans favor background checks. Does that mean that the entire story is true? What is the actual level of agreement? . . . It might not be what you expect.

They pointed to a Gallup poll showing that a majority of Americans are either satisfied with the current level of gun control—or actually want Less gun control!

Enten showed numbers showing that 36% (or barely one third) of Americans desire more gun control. However, 54% prefer current laws. Less gun control!

Enten also mentioned two state recent referendums regarding background checks. He noted that in Maine, the proposal to expand background checks was actually defeated, and in Nevada, passed with the slimmest of margins, at barely over 50%.

Summing up, Enten said:

“So, you take a look at these Background check is a popular choice in polls: 90%, 80%! If you examine the actual votes for this measure by voters, then it isn’t anywhere. Close That’s it!You can’t call it a 50/50 proposition.

Back at it! Morning JoeIt is more gun control all the time.

This NewsBuster will be a regular Day of the New Viewer, who has been noticing signs of an upcoming departure from its hard-left stance for many years. Chris Licht [CNN’s new head honcho] effect? MSNBC however seems determined to follow the liberal line to the bitter finish.

PS. Enten arrived later in the morning for underlining how poorly Biden is polling on the economy.

CNN’s New Day features Harry Enten (polling expert), who presents data showing that most Americans feel satisfied with gun-control legislation. This was sponsored partly by Orkin GlaxoSmithKline which makes Voltaren, Lincoln and IHOP.

JOHNBERMAN: Today, congressional staffers will resume bipartisan discussions on gun safety. You hear that background checks are supported by 90% of Americans. But does this tell you the truth about how many people actually agree with them?

Harry Enten is CNN’s Senior Data Reporter. Harry will join me when we discuss possible areas of agreement. You might not think so.

HARRY ENTEN: It’s not about how Americans feel about gun control but also how strongly they feel about it.

Gallup has a great question that asks: “Are you satisfied with U.S. firearm laws?” If you’re not satisfied, then do you desire stricter laws or are they less restrictive?
Only 36% Only 36% are satisfied and desire stricter gun regulations. Take this for example: 54% are satisfied with their lives, while 36% say they want stricter gun laws. Less strict gun laws. You might want to have stricter gun laws, but are satisfied with the current situation.

This tells me the story. It could also be that you desire stricter gun laws but are generally satisfied with the 54%. The vast majority of Americans feel satisfied with their gun laws or would prefer to have them less restrictive.

BERMAN The polling suggests that they are a popular idea. However, when it comes to actually putting the concept to the test,Harry

ENTENDo these polls really follow the votes when there is a chance for them to vote?

Two ballot measures for expanding background checks were introduced in 2016. One in Maine and one in Nevada. These states both lie in the middle for the nation’s electorate. Both of them are within the point range for the national president. See what happenedMaine. The vote for Yes was 48.2%. In reality, the ballot measure did not extend background checks. 52% of voters voted no. Nevada’s vote barely received more than half of its votes.

So you Take a look at polls where background checks are mentioned: 80% or 90% It’s nowhere when you take a look at the people who actually vote on this measure. Close It’s that simple! This is a much bigger 50/50 proposition.
