One of the key races in Tuesday’s primary was the Democratic primary in Texas House District 28. We noted that
Cuellar’s essentially become a unicorn — an anti-abortion, pro-border-control Democrat — so the contrast between him and Cisneros couldn’t be more dramatic. This one’s going to have lots of pundit tongues wagging in terms of what it may signal as to the preferences of Latino voters.
As of Wednesday morning, at 10:00 am Eastern, Cuellar holds the lead 50.2 percent to 49.8 percent — by a margin of 177 votes. (See the embed of the live race at the bottom of this article for additional updates — click “Change Race” to pull up the dropdown menu, then select “Texas US House 28.”)
The race hasn’t yet been called by Decision Desk HQ, though the Texas Observer is giving the edge to Cuellar: “Anti-Abortion Democrat Henry Cuellar Appears to Prevail Despite FBI Cloud.” (Three guesses as to which way the Observer leans — and the first two don’t count.)
Cuellar has declared victory:

Cisneros however isn’t conceding.

With a margin that close, it may be a while before this one is officially called — and a recount may well be in the offing.
