RedState has covered the Kyle Rittenhouse matter extensively over the past few days. But today could be perhaps the most surprising moment. Kyle Rittenhouse, an unpredicted and risky move, took to the stands today to defend himself.
Some thought that Rittenhouse was insisting that he testify because the defense team would not have called this shot. However, clips of the trial are beginning to surface and I think that this is part of a coordinated strategy.
Rittenhouse is the defense’s witness, so his attorneys questioned him first. He broke down in tears as he described the night’s events.

Here was Johnathan Turley’s analysis, which seems to correspond with the idea that this was a planned move, not a last-second mutiny against his lawyers by Rittenhouse himself.
…Prosecution witnesses imploded earlier. Rittenhouse could have easily been put on the stand to reduce risk. However, such a move could left lingering doubts in jurors if you want to nail an acquittal…

The judge ordered Rittenhouse to recess after Rittenhouse fell apart. We are currently waiting for the verdict of the prosecution. You can be sure that they will press the last chance to make a good case considering how bad their case is. If Rittenhouse is not more sympathetic, this could prove to be a backfire.
Regardless, I think it’s clear that 1) the evidence supports the claim of self-defense and 2) that Rittenhouse is not some vicious white supremacist who showed up to murder people. He clearly was affected by the events and had no intent to kill anyone. Rittenhouse drove 20 minutes from Kenosha, his hometown that night.
Whether he “should not have been there,” a common refrain from his detractors, is irrelevant. This standard does not apply to other situations and we should not send anyone to jail for non-criminal learning. RedState will continue to update you on this story once the investigation by the prosecution is over.
