Ilhan Omar Complains About Seeking Oil From Saudi Arabia. She’s Part of the Problem – Opinion

In light of the current situation in Ukraine President Joe Biden may consider reaching out to Saudi Arabia to find a solution for high gas prices due to sanctions against Russia’s decision to invade neighboring countries. This possibility is not welcomed by some leftists. Rep. Ilhanomar (D-MN), however, has criticized the concept by noting that the U.S. would likely be in bed with an undesirable actor.

On Sunday, Omar tweeted:

Our response to Putin’s immoral war shouldn’t be to strengthen our relationship with the Saudis who are currently causing the worst humanitarian crisis on the planet in Yemen.

Although Yemenis are not important for some, they do matter for their humanity. This is outrageously immoral.

You might be surprised that I’m saying this, but she’s right. Saudi Arabia is responsible for perpetuating a terrible humanitarian crisis in Yemen. It’s also a shame to think that they could be dependent upon them. But here’s the issue: Rep. Omar, like many of her comrades, is a huge part of the problem. People like her are what put the U.S. into a position where they need to rely on Saudi Arabia. Let’s take a look at some of her previous statements.

In 2020, she posted a tweet announcing that the Sierra Club endorsed her and vowed to work towards “accelerated transition from fossil fuels to a green economy.” She tweeted:

Half measures won’t cut it when it comes to combating this climate emergency. That’s why I am honored to have @SierraClub’s endorsement as we work toward:

-100% renewable energy

A rapid transition from fossil fuels into a green economy

Community with zero-waste

In the following year, the lawmaker tweeted praise for the Green New Deal. He also supported the notion of stopping fossil fuels.

The treatment of our planet should not be dictated by fossil fuel companies.

A Green New Deal is needed, along with complete divestment of fossil fuels. Not pipelines or mining projects, which could threaten land and water.

It should not take too much effort in 2020.

Axios on Sunday reported that “President Biden’s advisers are discussing a possible visit to Saudi Arabia this spring to help repair relations and convince the Kingdom to pump more oil.”

A hat-in-hand trip would illustrate the gravity of the global energy crisis driven by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Biden has chastised Saudi Arabia. The CIA believes that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is the de facto leader of Saudi Arabia. This was the case in relation to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, Washington Post columnist.

The author also noted that “[d]iscussions about a potential visit are still in the early phases and officials cautioned a visit is far from finalized and may not happen.”

Omar, like many others, is a fool for complaining that Biden may make concessions to Saudi Arabia in order to cover the costs of sanctions on Russia. However they are the ones who have obstructed any attempts to make America oil independent. Even today, prominent left-wingers believe that energy independence will not be able to stop bad actors like Vladimir Putin. Instead, they suggest that America more fully embrace green energy and do away with fossil fuels – a process that would take decades to accomplish.

As I have written, if you truly want to keep countries like Russia, Saudi Arabia, and others from manipulating our country, then they will support America’s idea of becoming energy independent through the production of its own oil. Developing renewable energy solutions for the future. Their refusal to do so reveals this is not really about green energy or being impervious to Putin’s machinations. Omar and others will continue to pretend to care, while being part of the problem.
