This now makes two articles today that I have to assure you aren’t satire

New hysteria has emerged from the left following allegations that Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida is starting his own “militia” circulated this morning. The claim originated from CNN (shocked face) via an article entitled “DeSantis Proposes a New Civilian Military Force in Florida That He Would Control.” It includes a picture of DeSantis partially overlaid on a picture of Donald Trump.
We all know the insinuations of CNN.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is seeking to restore a World War II-era civil military force, which he would manage, and not the Pentagon.
DeSantis proposed Thursday’s idea to increase support for the Florida National Guard in times of emergency, such as hurricanes. In administering Covid-19 vaccines and monitoring the distribution of them, the Florida National Guard played an important role during this pandemic.
But in a nod to the growing tension between Republican states and the Biden administration over the National Guard, DeSantis also said this unit, called the Florida State Guard, would be “not encumbered by the federal government.” He said this force would give him “the flexibility and the ability needed to respond to events in our state in the most effective way possible.” DeSantis is proposing bringing it back with a volunteer force of 200 civilians, and he is seeking $3.5 million from the state legislature in startup costs to train and equip them.
The race was on. MSNBC’s Malcolm Nance took to social media to proclaim this the beginning of “Trump’s Red Army.” That tweet came in response to radio host Dean Obeidallah claiming DeSantis was doing what leaders in Iraq have done and that the Florida governor is preparing “for war.”
WTAF?! Ok Real America. This should be RTED LARGELY. ONLY refer to these new State paramilitary militias & insurrectionists with the proper Hashtag #TrumpsRedArmy https://t.co/iCKQ4zofII

CNN has achieved their mission, but deep within the article lies the truth about what DeSantis wants to accomplish. If you go down to paragraph 8, you’ll see that not only is this not some civil war militia force, but it’s actually something that New York, California, and 20 other states already have.
If Florida moves ahead with DeSantis’ plan to reestablish the civilian force, it would become the 23rd active state guard in the country, DeSantis’ office said in a press release, joining California, Texas and New York.
“Reestablishing the Florida State Guard will allow civilians from all over the state to be trained in the best emergency response techniques and have the ability to mobilize very, very quickly,” DeSantis said during a visit to Pensacola on Thursday.
So what’s the actual purpose? The purpose is to rapidly respond to disasters like hurricanes and other civil emergencies without worrying about the Federal red tape surrounding National Guard deployment. The state can also have all the resources they need without being subject to federal vaccine mandates that have threatened to degrade National Guard units.
DeSantis does not plan to fight for Donald Trump, or other such ridiculous nonsense promoted by BlueAnon freaks. This suggestion would land someone in an institution. MSNBC has no problem with these types of people being on the air. They are looking for the division and hyperbole that this creates, and CNN knows exactly what it was doing when they used that headline.
And to think that so many, including on the right, clutched their pearls when Donald Trump called these “news” outlets the enemy of the people.
