Despite offensive material being forced upon Americans everywhere, anti-pornography movements are growing in the United States. The movement just won a major victory.
Mindgeek CEO Feras Antoon and COO David Tassillo, who own a collection of the top pornographic websites, have resigned, according to Insider.
Two men held control of several porn websites, including Redtube and Pornhub. The porn websites have been subject to intense scrutiny due to claims of child pornography and human trafficking. Insider was told by a MindGeek spokesperson that Antoon and Tassillo have resigned from MindGeek’s daily operations. They had served more than 10 years in senior leadership roles with the company. Numerous outlets have noted that the resignations came the week after The New Yorker published a report of the rape videos and child pornography found on the website.
Mindgeek’s spokesperson has conveniently denied the connection between the departure and the report about this disgusting content. Insider was told that “The New Yorker could seriously assess what works to fight illegal material online by looking into the facts, comparing platforms’ policies, and studying their results.” The spokesperson said that they did not ignore MindGeek’s more extensive and effective policies and instead chose to spread the same grave mischaracterizations anti-porn extremists had been using for decades.
Mindgeek has been the victim of terrible media. In December 2020, the New York Times published a column about the underage content on Pornhub. In June 2021, 34 women filed a civil case against MindGeek. These women were accused of having profited from Pornhub’s videos, while 34 of the 14 plaintiffs said they had been victims underage sexual trafficking.
MindGeek and other companies are receiving the attention they need.
