If you were expecting anything but softballs during NBC’s Lester Holt’s Super Bowl interview with President Joe Biden on Sunday, you will be sorely disappointed. You shouldn’t be surprised though, there was no way Holt would allow the possibility of Biden embarrassing himself in front of a large audience of sports fans.
Holt wasted no time pulling out the favorite leftist hits, with his first question predictably being Holt panicking about the Football stadium being packed with maskless fans: “You were interviewed a year ago about the Super Bowl, and you expressed hope that come this year they’d be able to fill the stands again with people. And that apparently is going to be the case.” Holt kvetched, “However, many of those people won’t be wearing masks despite the local law in Los Angeles. What is your message to people who want desperately for this to be over and to be able to resume the lives that they remember?”
In response to this wailing from Holt, Biden made the jaw dropping sarcastic claim that “I love how people talk about personal freedom. If you’re exercising personal freedom, put someone else in jeopardy, their health in jeopardy, I don’t consider that being very – dealing with freedom. It’s about moving in the direction you know is likely to diminish the prospects that this virus continues to spread.”
Holt did not respond. He moved to the next leftist item on his agenda: affirmative actions in the NFL.
HOLT – The Super Bowl has reopened the debate over the NFL. It concerns racial hiring practices. Are you of the opinion that this issue should not be a matter for the NFL due to its vast influence?
Biden responded by saying he thinks the NFL “should be held to a reasonable standard.” Biden continued railing against the NFL not being “diverse enough” saying “They haven’t lived up to being open about hiring more minorities, to run teams, and whether or not, you know, Goodell says they’re going to take a look at it, what–whether they can meet the standard. You know of someone who suggested that this was something we should be doing. Think about it, I think it’s the whole idea that a league that is made up of so many athletes of color as well as so diverse that there’s not enough African American qualified coaches to manage these NFL teams?”
Holt ended the interview by asking Biden who he believes is going to win the Super Bowl to which Biden replied “Los Angeles gonna be hard to beat.” This is fantastic news for Bengals fan and NewsBusters Managing Editor Curtis Houck because Biden is almost always wrong in his predictions.

3.15.21 pmLESTER HOLT: You were interviewed a year ago about the Super Bowl, and you expressed hope that come this year they’d be able to fill the stands again with people. This appears to be the case. But many people in Los Angeles won’t wear masks. Is this your message for people who are desperate to have the situation sorted out and be allowed to live their lives as normal?
JOE BIDEN, THE PRESIDENT,: It’s amazing how people speak about individual freedom. If you’re exercising personal freedom, put someone else in jeopardy, their health in jeopardy, I don’t consider that being very – dealing with freedom. This is about going in the right direction that will reduce the chances of this virus spreading. So I believe everyone should receive the shots. The shots are reliable. We know they work for the kind – the variants that are available that we are dealing with now. There are many other tools that we can use to avoid death or serious illnesses. It is important that they are careful. If they aren’t careful enough for their own safety, consider their children and their families.
HOLT – The Super Bowl has reopened the debate over the NFL. The allegations of racial hiring practices. Are you of the opinion that this issue should not be a matter for the NFL due to its vast influence?
BIDEN : It should be held to a reasonable standard. The commissioner said that they hadn’t fulfilled their promises. They haven’t lived up to being open about hiring more minorities, to run teams, and whether or not, you know, Goodell says they’re going to take a look at it, what–whether they can meet the standard. The standard was set by someone whom you are familiar with who suggested that we do so. It’s the idea of a league with so many African American athletes and so few qualified coaches who manage them. It just seems to me that it’s a standard that they’d want to live up to. This is not an obligation of law. It’s just a general requirement.
HOLT: Can we wrap up an interview in this manner without asking Cincinnati or Los Angeles?
BIDEN – Well, the teams have gone, and this is my favorite young quarterback from Cincinnati. He is an Ohio boy. This guy can make anyone happy. Los Angeles is gonna be hard to beat, but we have Los Angeles.
HOLT. Thank you, Mr. President for being generous with your valuable time. We are grateful that you took the time to sit down with us.
BIDEN: We are grateful.
