We have witnessed account after account, as is typical in all wars, of bravery and courage under some of the most difficult of circumstances since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Hall’s experiences — and reaction to them and attitude about them— are among the most courageous. He revealed his horrific injuries in a tweet he sent on Thursday night, which Fox News transcribed.
To sum it up, I’ve lost half a leg on one side and a foot on the other. One hand is being put together, one eye is no longer working, and my hearing is pretty blown… but all in all, I feel pretty damn lucky to be here — and it is the people who got me here who are amazing!
Hall was also kind enough to honor Zakrzewski & Kuvshynova by sharing a photograph of his fallen colleagues. BeforeHe describes his condition.
Since the attack on Ukraine, it has been more than three weeks and I thought that it was time to begin sharing this information. But first I need to pay tribute to my colleagues Pierre and Sasha who didn’t make it that day. Pierre and I traveled around the globe together. His joy at working was infectious. Remember Pierre, my friend.
Hall was wounded and lost his friends, but he thought about the world around him before he died.
The media is not trying to get an emotional reaction. This is absolutely what’s happening. It’s a complete disaster. It is a catastrophe for everyone.
Hall could not have known, of course, how close-up and personal that catastrophe would come to him — how it would forever change his life and the lives of the loved ones of his fallen comrades.
In today’s world of disgust With— and lack of trust In — the media, stories of incredible bravery, strength, and conviction like that of Benjamin Hall are worth stopping to ponder, for they are few and far between.
It is possible to find those who only seek truth, and those who only want to advance their narratives.
