Sheryl Sandberg, a former executive at Meta was investigated for using corporate resources for wedding expenses.
Sandberg was COO at Facebook’s parent company.
The Wall Street JournalReports indicate that Sandberg has left the company after a review of her personal life for possible misuse of company funds.
The Journal said the company’s review included “a review of her use of corporate resources to help plan her coming wedding to Tom Bernthal…”
Sandberg, who worked for the company 14 years, will still be on the company’s Board of Director.
“I am not entirely sure what the future will bring — I have learned no one ever is,” she said according to The Journal. But I am certain it will involve focusing on my foundation, philanthropic work and other important areas. This is especially crucial for me considering how vital this moment is to women.
Meta for her part denies that Sandberg was forced to resign because she misappropriated corporate resources.
Caroline Nolan, Meta spokesperson said that none of these factors had anything to do “with her decision to go,” The Journal.
Sandberg was not the first to be accused of using company resources.
A report by the earlier in the year Wall Street JournalSandberg, it was claimed, had pressured the Daily MailNot to publish an article about a restraining orders that Robert Kotick, her ex-boyfriend and videogame mogul, had obtained against him. Sandberg and Kotick reportedly used the paper’s relationships with Facebook to keep the article from being published.
“In 2016 and 2019, Ms. Sandberg contacted the digital edition of the Daily Mail, which was reporting on a story that would have revealed the existence of a temporary restraining order against Mr. Kotick that had been obtained by a former girlfriend in 2014, according to people involved in the article and the campaigns to stop its publication,” the article alleged. Kotick has denied it.
