Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Has Died, Assassinated At 67 – Opinion

Shinzo Abe was shot as he gave a speech in Nara (Japan) Friday morning.

NHK reported that Abe, a 67-year-old man, suffered from cardiopulmonary arrest following an attack from the behind using a shotgun. He reportedly showed “no vital signs” upon arrival at the hospital. He was initially responsive when he arrived at the hospital. But his condition continued to decline.

Tetsuyayamagami, an in-law, was taken into police custody by the local authorities. He is a 41-year old man. Photographs of the suspect reveal that he was swiftly detained by law enforcement.

Abe was prime minister between 2006 and 2007, as well as again in 2012, 2012, and 2020. Abe was also a member the Liberal Democratic Party. His wife Akie Abe is his survivor. Nobuo Kishi is currently the Minister of Defense.
