Every poll shows a grim future for Democrats today. The polls that analyze American attitudes to President Joe Biden, Democrats in Congress and the Democrats themselves paint a grim picture of the left. There is no silver lining. A focus group recently provided some insight into how Democratic voters are viewing the party they support–and it doesn’t look good.
Politico reported:
HIT Strategies is conducting weekly focus group discussions to see how Americans process events in 2022. On Monday night we watched discussions with two different subgroups of partisan Democrats assembled by the firm: “Black Base, Always vote for Dems, Ages 25+” and “Youth Base; Always vote for Dems, Ages 25 – 39.”
The conversations revealed that Democratic voters were deeply concerned by inflation and criminality and are tired of COVID-19. Although they sympathize with the Ukrainian people, they are not thrilled by the fact that President Biden has invested so much time and money on this matter. The news outlet even noted some “ambiguity about how important Jan. 6 should be for Democrats in the midterms.” Underlying the discussions was a distinct dissatisfaction with how Democrats have performed while controlling the White House and legislature.
This focus group revealed that even its loyal voters are not happy with the Democratic Party’s current policies. D.C. Democrats contend that the focus of media attention on inflation, other problems and not rising wages or decreased unemployment is what causes economic worries.
Participants in the focus groups however, had a completely different opinion. Unease among the participants was expressed by one member of the focus group. She cited increased gasoline prices as well as food shortages at Whole Foods. “It just seems like everything is going up and there’s no end in sight,” she complained.
Houston black man described how he struggled to survive when only $13 and $12 an hour jobs were available. “No one can live off of that, especially with inflation,” he said.
It’s quite difficult to blame the media for people’s economic worries when people are actively experiencing the negative impacts of inflation up close and personal, isn’t it? These problems may have been overlooked by the Democrats, who seem to be in denial about it.
Another area of dissatisfaction is related to Democrats’ failure to pass meaningful legislation. The party often boasts its passing of the American Rescue plan, and infrastructure bill. However, most voters care more about the actual problems facing them. “I think the Democrats have just been really ineffectual,” said one of the group members.
One Black female participant said she didn’t feel much urgency about the midterms “because at this moment the Democrats [are] running the House and they’re not getting much done.”
Crime was another issue on voters’ minds. A black man from New York criticized bail reform laws that had been passed in the state, complaining they led to “repeat offenders” being released shortly after being apprehended. A black Philadelphia woman stated she was also concerned about gun violence and carjackings being perpetrated by “repeat offenders.”
The participants also offered interesting perspectives on the Ukraine crisis. Black group members, in particular, criticized the Biden administration for using resources on a foreign nation’s war. After learning about the $14 billion in aid that the U.S. has sent to Ukraine, one black male said: “They need to take that money back and give it to Black people for reparations,” according to Politico.
There has been much talk of the Democrats’ prospects for remaining in power after the upcoming congressional elections. What we’ve seen from the extreme left in the last year is not limited to November. Along with all of the left-wing activists media, this party has displayed a shocking lack self-awareness by pushing for policies America doesn’t support. Even worse is their inability to grasp how everyday issues affect them.
The fact that people like Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg would respond to skyrocketing gas prices by suggesting Americans just go out and buy electric cars is but one example showing that the left has moved further from the mainstream despite controlling the country’s most influential institutions.
As Republicans, Democrats find themselves in civil war over the direction of their party. The far-left, progressive wing of the party hasn’t yet gained enough power to move the party towards Marxism. However, this situation may make it questionable if the party is moving towards Marxism. These people are still very disconnected from the rest of us and they have embraced the elitism which turns away voters. More importantly, they show little concern for American’s problems. If they continue keeping their heads in the sand, the party’s troubles might get even worse after the midterms.
