Blue states like New York and California have been widely (and deservedly) mocked over the last couple of decades or so by Republicans including GOP governors like Florida’s Ron DeSantis due to the growing number of people who have fled those Democrat-run states in favor of red states.
Exodus is mostly due to the lower living costs and the greater number of job openings. People who leave their blue state for a red one often bring with them that same left-wing mentality that turned their state into the expensive, woke train wreck that they wanted to escape.
That thought was certain to have prompted Keith Olbermann, a Florida conservative writer, to dine on him. The exchange ended with a humorous tale of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who got caught in Florida over Christmas doing things she advises New Yorkers not do during an outbreak of COVID.
Brendon Leslie, a conservative journalist and the founder of Florida’s Conservative Voice, explained in a Twitter thread on AOC’s now-well-publicized jaunt to the state that “For those of you with zero sense of humor: the whole point of this post is to expose hypocrisy. We don’t actually care she’s maskless. We care she fear mongers about Florida but then has the audacity to vacation here.”
Two days later, Olbermann, who still to this day is still a genuinely awful person for reasons I’ll explain in just a minute, sarcastically responded by insinuating that Leslie didn’t want anyone to vacation in a state that has made a lot of money thanks to the influx of tourists and retirees.
“There’s the takeaway: don’t anybody vacation in Florida. Got it,” said the disgraced former MSNBC anchor who during his time on the network had a segment on his show devoted to making “special comments” on public figures who irritated him.
Around this time in debates between liberals and conservatives on how conservatives are supposedly so “inhospitable” to liberals who want to vacation in or move to their states, it’s not uncommon to see conservatives back down to avoid getting labeled as “unwelcoming.”
Fortunately, Leslie didn’t wilt. He responded accordingly by telling Olbermann that he, AOC and anyone else who had their “destructive” political viewpoints should kindly stay out of his state. He signed it “Florida Man”:
Hi @KeithOlbermann – fine by me, keep your destructive politics out of my state.
While you’re at it, encourage all your comrades to do the same.
Sincerely,
Florida Man https://t.co/xWTGpCIXhl— Brendon Leslie (@BrendonLeslie) January 4, 2022
I have seen my state turn from being reliably red to purple during the past two decades, thanks to the flood of immigrants from the North and their big-government beliefs systems. While I’m okay with political disagreement and debate, I am not okay at all with people trying to turn North Carolina into what they couldn’t wait to get away from. I’m not going to grin and bear this at all. Nor will I try to disguise my disgust with sweet southern charm. I’ll fight against it every day until the good Lord carries me home.
As for Olbermann, on the same day he tried and failed to dunk on Leslie, he was also continuing his push to put himself in contention for “Worst Person in the World” status, a term which those who were familiar with Olbermann’s “Countdown” show on MSNBC should remember:

It’s been quite a number of strokes for him, isn’t it? https://t.co/KDcxOmuLBj
