A federal judge in Florida has ruled that the former presidential status of Donald Trump does not exempt him from Twitter’s rules.
Former president suspended following allegations that he incited January 6th riots.
Twitter won the case, although it wasn’t for Trump to sue. Instead, the judge held that Twitter’s “forum selection clause,” which mandates the location where a lawsuit can be held, is valid.
Trump argued that as a former President of the United States, he should be exempt from Twitter’s forum selection clause. The judge disagreed.
“The Court found that Trump’s status in the United States as President does not exempt him form the forum selection clause of Twitter’s Terms of Service”, the judge declared.
Trump sued Twitter, Facebook, and Twitter over the bans. Last week, he announced that TRUTH Social was his new social media platform. TRUTH Social will be released next spring under the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG).
Trump said he is excited about his platform’s potential.
“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech,” he said in a statement. “We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is inexcusable. I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon.”
